Monday miscellany

Unexpected work struck today. Oh no! And it’s not even the kind that pays. Still, it’s the kind that has to be done during today’s five-second bursts of sunshine. So just some quick stuff for you:

  • Manhattan-sized manmade floating island. Um … okay. Wonder how far that $50,000 will take the project? Wonder what that whiz-kid actually plans to do with it? Old-timers have seen this script before, but one of these days somebody’s going to succeed with the notion.
  • “The prosecution rests, but I can’t.” Eloquent statement by a victim of “justice.” (Why do people always say they don’t care about the money, though? Of course they care about the money when they sue! Maybe not just the money. But nobody believes you have $14 million snatched from you and don’t care.)
  • Woody Woodpecker and avant garde art??? (The last two items are NY Times.)
  • Isn’t that a great thing that happened to the very creative John Silveira?
  • Brian Doherty on Atlas Shrugged: The Movie. I just checked the initial theater locations on MovieFone.com. Rats. Nothing close enough for me to go to unless a client picks up the travel tab. Don’t think that’s gonna happen …
  • Melt up — melt down. The ominous thing about this article is that it’s from the mainstreamish Minyanville.

That’s it for today. Must go prime wood.

I once heard someone say that “avant garde” was French for “crap.”

I didn’t see anything in those still frames that would cause me to disagree.

It’s playing a few miles away from me – I can’t wait to see Atlas Shrugged. I did not think this day would ever come.

Like Tim, I’m, lucky to, 3 theaters within 5 miles – originally thought I was going to have to goto LA/Orange County to see it.

Hey a thought you could go make a “short” visit to the IKEA and there is a theater near there playing Shrugged

Such fun to create “yes i can”

I don’t know if I’d want to time travel, sometimes it’s nearly impossible to get 2 states away in reality……But it’s nice to see the credit going where it belongs, finally….the movie sounds interesting, too…..

Time to throw some movie $$ Claire’s way. I’m headed for the Southcenter AMC 16 on Friday.

Well. I made a mistake when I first looked at the MovieFone listings! They were showing me only listings for the Thursday midnight shows and I didn’t notice. Once I put in the proper opening date, I got a theater a little bit closer. Still several hours away … but maybe doable.

Thanks for the money throwing thought, LibertyNews. But I might be able to justify the shorter trip. Sure do want to see Atlas.

I’m with you, Tim Osman. Never thought the day would come.

Here’s another one for the stupid files:

C’mon, lets go ram “good food” down their stupid throats because it’s nutritious, and WE KNOW BETTER THAN THEY DO! Even if the food tastes like crap.

And most gets thrown away anyway. What’s its called when the students are smarter than those who runs the schools?

IMHO, just another D*mned good reason I’m glad I’m out of school. Sheesh!

CHOKE COUGH COUGH ACK!!!! Was that a heart attack; no, just disbelief. Claire, I didn’t believe your MovieFone link, so I checked the web for Marcus Theatres (the local chain). “Atlas Shrugged” is actually playing in Green Bay. I even have a $3 coupon thanks to a box of M&Ms. Wow; when was the last time I went to a first-run movie showing? Might have to splurge by taking the wife. 🙂

Two jobs ago, one of the people in the Fine Arts building claimed Avant Garde” meant “What is this sh*#?” in French. Side note: the key to this building had “F.Arts” stamped into it..

whiz-kid forgot to include the part where he explains why his attempt to build a nation-state flotilla^H^H^H flotsam will succeed where there has been so many failures before.

Maybe he’s hoping you won’t see the literally dozens of previous failures before you lay down a pledge for 10,000 FRN. (which will, if it ever gets built, grant you the ownership of one whole square meter of real-estate, fee-simple I assume)

At the very least I’d expect a underpants gnome style theory that would explain how to get your newly created nation-state to be recognized as a sovereign state by enough other nations in the exclusive nation club such that the currency and/or passports are recognized as legitimate.
