One-question gun-control pop quiz

Identify the political position of this person:

  • Claims that 90% of the public wants “universal background checks” on gun buyers.
  • Uses code language like “reasonable reform,” “moderate,” and “common-sense gun legislation.”
  • Believes that taxpayers should subsidize the cost of universal background checks.
  • Wants the fedgov to hire more FBI agents.
  • Believes that gun-rights supporters should be worried that if we don’t “embrace” universal background checks “President Obama and others” will think that we are “merely obstructionists” and “zealots.”
  • Wants the Manchin-Toomey bill reintroduced with a few changes.
  • Lies, misinterprets, or is ignorant about some of the bill’s provisions.
  • Believes that “universal background checks” will never, ever lead to gun registration because the Manchin-Toomey bill says so.

This person’s self-identified political position is:

_____ Moderate
_____ Liberal
_____ Conservative
_____ Bleeding-heart liberal
_____ Freaking airheaded liberal
_____ Hoplophobe
_____ McCain neocon
_____ Deluded media suck
_____ Complete freaking moron
_____ Charles Schumer
_____ Worshipper at the Church of Obama
_____ Libertarian

No peeking, but here’s the answer.

There was no option for “good Washingtonian” on the self-identified political positions.

LOL, Jim — that would just be “All of the Above.”

I was about to answer, The NRA, but I had to look (cheating, I know). The answer comes as no surprise and just another confirmation that there will be no political solution to what we face. Politicians, political parties and all of their bedfellows are the problem. Flush them all down the crapper.

No matter how it shook out, the answer is complete freakin’ moron…and I peeked, lol. 😉

To be honest, I thought it was that guy in charge of the GOA who think he’s libertarianish. After all, he was in the news recently making deals with the government pissing off the gun owners, and having to do damage control.

Turns out to be completely different.

Jim B. — I’m pretty sure you’re thinking of Alan Gottlieb of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. And yes, I actually wondered if he might have written this piece for that obnoxiously clueless Catoite.

Teresa Sue — Amen, complete freakin’ moron (CFM).

Kevin3% — I’ve known a couple of “libertarians” who got low-level positions in DC and pretty soon were talking like members of the Beltway club (and thinking that the rest of us “just don’t understand how you get things done in Washington”). That this CFM actually believes it’s important to have Obama think well of us is … OMG … if that just doesn’t show how completely warped that insider-wannabe mentality is …

What you identify yourself as doesn’t matter- what you do is what matters. If those are your positions you can claim to be the Universe’s greatest libertarian, and it’ll mean about as much if I call myself the richest Saudi billionaire.

I’m disappointed that people here don’t at least appreciate that the New York Times used the word “libertarian” in a headline.

Well, I “cheated” in that I already saw the article.

[If they don’t, they will be opening themselves to accusations from President Obama and others that they are merely obstructionists, zealots who will not agree to common-sense gun legislation.]

Yeah. That ship already sailed and sunk. To Schumer et al anyone owning a gun is a bitter clinger.

[In the days since the defeat of the Manchin-Toomey proposal, advocates of gun restrictions have gone on the offensive.]

Nope. They went on the offensive as soon as the elections were in the can. Remember how the paranoid folks at NRA lied about how that was going to happen?

[To my mind, the Manchin-Toomey proposal needs additional improvements to satisfy the demands of certain gun rights advocates.]

Let me know when Schumer et al agree. I won’t be holding my breath.

If that’s libertarian, then I’m the queen of Sheba!

Oh of COURSE they will obey the law.

After all, it is already illegal to establish a database of firearms from the 4473 forms that the ATF has been studiously copying into a database for years…oh wait.

    you are right…CFM.

I don’t appreciate any headline the NY times might use, don’t appreciate the NY times. The person that wrote that identifies himself with a political party so wrote from the viewpoint of that political party. I would suggest this person would be a LINO.

Jim- I wouldn’t appreciate a headline in the NY Times that said “Libertarians favor killing and eating kindergartners”, either. Not because it’s the NY Times, but because it isn’t true and it deceives people into attributing an evil opinion to me.

Chairman of the Board of Cato???

Another one looking for better government; how refreshing. I can hardly wait to see what the best government looks like.

But CATO?! CHAIRMAN?!! Surely this is the Twilight Zone.

Great Quiz, Claire! First one I aced since the LSU Entrance Exam:
    “Where is the entrance?”

Levy’s piece: Fascinating in a morbid sorta way. Interviewed him on a variety of subjects and he always made a firm, principled constitutional landing. Guess the Logic Free Zone has claimed another brain.
How appropriate of him to send it to the Old Gray Lady. That oughtta get him invited back to the TV yap fests pronto.

After recent events, and for various reasons persons showing their true colors in a crisis – I sid this sad – but as I often say “Statists gonna state.”

    Another to the IGNORE pile.

And seriously, my idea od reasonable firearms regulation is just to leave me the Hell alone. I will never think that is too much to ask.

It pisses me off, but its no surprise.

Oh, Bob Levy? NYT wants a login, so I didn’t read the article, but I’m not surprised, given other surprises from Levy in the past.

I’ve got the perfect “compromise” for all the controllers…

I’ll cut off one of your arms and “allow” you to keep the other one intact.

No? Why, you’re just unreasonable, obstructionist and selfish. It’s for the children, after all.

Lots and lots of “complete friggin’ morons” out there. sigh

Attempting to resurrect the Manchin-Toomey Bill?
    CFM? Without a doubt.

Look at the bright side. When statist morons are calling themselves libertarians, it means we are winning. It was inevitable that the term would be watered down. The alternative is worse – that nobody would want to be called that.
