Family fun (and a homeschooling moment) with the eclipse

Eclipse. Click for a short video.

Now, if that time-lapse today’s eclipse isn’t quite as dazzling as a special effect from the latest Hollywood blockbuster, consider this: it was made as part of a father-son homeschooling project and made (over an hour and 20 minutes) with — I quote — “a box of recycled foam core, tablecloth, towel and tinfoil aperture.”

I am impressed.

The son also took this photograph at totality:

Not only that, but said family (near St. Louis) got Florida Grandma into the scene via Skype and a computer equipped with eclipse glasses. Three generations in two states whopped and hollered their way through the big event. Together.

Wonders exist for those who want to be part of them.

Big thanks to reader S for sharing the images and family story. You made my day.

If the eclipse wasn’t amazing enough seeing it on the computer with my family was an absolute miracle. Love across the miles. Thank you.

The weather forecast for south Georgia, yesterday, was for “mostly cloudy”. Heh. It turned out to be mostly sunny.

Except for the rather large yet lonely cloud between my house and the sun, during the event.

    Bummer.

Lucky you, Desertrat. In MY part of south Georgia, it was so cloudy that street lights turned on more than an hour before the eclipse, and it rained during.

Cool photo! I did go outside to experience the eclipse and one of the folks I work in the building with had a certified eclipse viewer but alas, the clouds rolled in and obscured the view of it. Oh well…

We had lovely clear weather here in South Carolina and enjoyed the eclipse immensely. Quite a spectacle. (And the traffic jams, both before and after, were also impressive. I know someone who had a roughly 45 minute drive take over 3 hours!)
