Midweek links

  • There’s blood in the water in Silicon Valley as the world wakes up to the private police states that have been created under our noses.
  • From the U.S. Virgin Islands where Authoritah ordered gun confiscation before Hurricane Irma hit.
  • The killed a helpless, trussed-up prisoner, but the DoJ won’t even give Freddie Gray’s killers a slap on the wrist.
  • Remember the Miami man who gave the last generator at Lowes to the desperate woman behind him in line? Lowes gave him a free one. That was classy.
  • There were nuns in the street with chainsaws.
  • There was comic relief.
  • But where was the Red Cross?
  • Maybe the RC’s CEO was hanging around with Richard F. Smith, CEO of disastrously disreputable Equifax. Five days later he comes out with an anodyne statement, obviously written by a PR firm, that adds absolutely nothing new to last week’s evasions. Equifax, you have a real talent for digging yourself an ever-deeper hole.
  • But don’t fret. Things could be worse. You could be subject to Equifax’s Argentina subsidiary.
  • Only on the Internet — or in the world of higher mathematics — do you find people measuring two different infinities and concluding they’re the same size. To this, the rest of us surely utter a highly enlightened … HUH?
  • Yeah, what Joel said. For once, politicians’ hatred of Trump might lead to them accidentally doing something for freedom.
  • CommanderZero says that this Friday is the holiday of Paratus — the annual day to celebrate preparedness. Although I’m pretty sure he made the whole thing up, it’s not a bad idea. I’ll try to write up something for the day. But alas, I’m too late to buy Paratus gifts.

And a YUUUUUUGE thank you to the person who bought multiples of that very cool tech toy via my Amazon links. Also to the new owner of the beautiful big shop tool. As you know, Amazon nerfed its payments to Associates earlier this year. Commissions on toys are less than half what they once were and commissions on tools dropped about 40% … but I’ve got to tell you that even with such drastic cuts, your two purchases gave me one of my best Amazon days ever. I checked my Associates reports yesterday morning before tea and thought I was seeing things! And I was. Good things.
