One person responded to my bleg for a new blogging camera. But whotta response. It goes without saying that both of these cameras go beyond the little point-and-shoot I was looking for. The Nikon goes beyond any camera I ever owned at any time or ever imagined owning.
When the giver offered me my choice of the two, I responded, “You choose — and surprise me.”
Well … he certainly did that. When I picked up the package at the PO today I could tell by its weight there was something more than one camera in it. But this being the same guy responsible for the Trader Joe’s Everyday Seasoning, a lifetime supply of tennis balls for Ava, many pounds of dried fruit, and much more over the years, I didn’t know what to expect.
Always the unexpected!
No more crappy phone cam! That is, once I figure out all the ins and outs of these guys. That Nikon is probably overqualified to be a mere blog camera, but I’ll try to be worthy of it.
And you’ll get a kick out of this. The giver apologized — apologized! — because the Panasonic didn’t come with a carry case.
Oh. Well I guess I’ll have to reject it then. (Yeah, like never. Anyhow, I’ve got a couple of old cases that’ll fit that just fine.)
Thank you, MJ!
Aw hell. I was gonna say I’ve got a couple of nice camera cases I’m someday going to have to cull, if I can’t find homes for them…
How nice! Whoever you are, you are a kind and generous man!
Wonderful! I do hope the instructions come in actual English, instead of the usual Engrish. Have you noticed that most of the descriptive information at Amazon now seems to be written by people who only THINK they speak English? Most of it is actually amusing. π
ML — Yup. Both come with thick manuals written in actual English. I haven’t delved in yet, but that’s what a quick check shows. (I’ve noticed that at Amazon, too, on everything from electronics to fuzzy socks. I just tell myself they know English better than I know Chinese.)
Joel — Well, darn. And thanks for the thought. But surely there’s some good hermit/prepper use for those good camera cases.
“…they know English better than I know Chinese.” Well, of course, there is that. LOL
I did receive one item, however, where the only printed material enclosed was in Chinese characters. Luckily, the pictures were fairly clear and I was able to put it together. Only one screw was miss threaded, and I was able to find a substitute in my collection. I’m actually amazed that this doesn’t happen more often.
If there’s a charger for that Coolpix, then awesome!!
I started my daughter out with a Coolpix L810 (then she snagged my D3200, and is now waiting for me to upgrade, so she can snag my current shooter), and our biggest complaint was that it ate batteries like crazy…the rechargable AA’s barely slowed it down.
But damn, that L810 took great pictures.
I’m betting the P6000 will too.
It will most definitely be a step up from a phone camera.
Congrats! π
WolfSong — There is everything for that Coolpix. The giver warned that it will eat batteries, but he kindly supplied three of the specialty batteries this camera takes, plus multiple options for charging.
I was beginning to think an old box Brownie would be a step up from my phone camera, but these beat everything.
You’ll be fine. Those are both good cameras. Pretty much point-and-shoot.
