Which means dogs.<\/p>\n<p>The first story isn&#8217;t a happy one. Far as you can get from happy. Unconscionable bastard careens down a residential street at 80 mph, plows through a stop sign, then smashes into a young couple walking four Australian cattle dogs. All four dogs dead. Young man&#8217;s leg torn off. Young woman hospitalized. Bastard drives off without stopping. No, as far from happy as it gets<\/p>\n<p>Yet a man a lot of people might have scorned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/2012\/07\/18\/4638401\/2-badly-injured-4-dogs-killed.html\" target=\"_blank\">becomes a hero<\/a>. And at least <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sacbee.com\/crime\/archives\/2012\/07\/suspect-arrested-in-carmichael-hit-and-run.html\" target=\"_blank\">they finally caught the miscreant<\/a>. Who turns out to be exactly the sort of person you&#8217;d expect. May he get <i>exactly<\/i> what he deserves. No more no less.<\/p>\n<p>Second story: Credit where it&#8217;s due. A policeman <a href=\"http:\/\/modifiedk9.blogspot.com\/2012\/05\/police-respond-to-vicious-dog-in.html\" target=\"_blank\">averts a puppycide<\/a>. In the best possible way. (Tip o&#8217; hat to the wonderful Maggie McNeill, <a href=\"http:\/\/maggiemcneill.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Honest Courtesan<\/a>, best of Radley Balko&#8217;s guest bloggers.)<\/p>\n<p>ADDED third story: Injured stray dog plucked from kill shelter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/entertainment\/houston-shelter-mutt-broadway-bow-wow-sandy-annie-article-1.1117276\" target=\"_blank\">to star on Broadway<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now forget all the stories.
