By the time you read this, the WhiteHouse.gov petition to make Obama, Biden, and their families safer<\/a> by creating a gun-free zone around them will have earned the 25,000 signatures required to earn a response from an Official White House Policy Wonk. <\/p>\n

It’s just 320 shy as I write this Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Good thing, too, because the WH has just announced that, henceforth, it’ll take 100,000 signatures<\/a> in 30 days for a petition to be worth bothering with.<\/p>\n

Look, I know just as well as you do that all this petitioning is useless. Of course it is. Except for one thing: it’s bothering them. Petitions to secede from the union or subject Our Leader to the same rules he wants us to live by get coverage and get the federal hypocrites’ goat. And that’s something.<\/p>\n

So’s this. While I think the NRA’s proposal to put government-paid armed guards in every school is nonsense (and expensive, disastrous nonsense at that), their commercial pointing out that Obama’s kids get exactly what he doesn’t want yours to have<\/a> is brilliant. It’s so rightly, deservedly emotional<\/i>. And it pokes at that little spot in all of us that’s increasingly noticing that the political “haves” are keeping themselves well above those who pay their upkeep.<\/p>\n

And then, on the same day the WH mouthpiece blasts the NRA ad as “repugnant and cowardly”<\/a> because it “exploits” children, we watch Obama (as WolfSong so aptly pointed out in recent comments) hiding himself behind a whole wall of excruciatingly manipulated grade schoolers<\/a>.<\/p>\n
