Seriously. It was better than its namesake because — obviously — I survived the night. However, I dared not take a shower. Not from fear of knife-wielding weirdos, but because, as Mr. Bates himself disingenuously explained, “We have two other guests and they might have used up all the hot water.” I don’t know what the other guests did (if they existed, they were very quiet), but this was definitely a cold-water experience. It was the only open motel in the itty-bitty village where I stopped, though. I was too beat to venture further down the road, not knowing if there’d be another motel within 100 miles.

No surprise, when I asked, “Where in town can I get wifi?” the answer was, “What’s wifi?” Thus the lack of posting. But here I am now, at a place where the wifi only cuts me off every 10 minutes and is sometimes even willing to re-connect!

Have I ever mentioned that I hate travel? Sigh. Gotta wonder then, why it always seems like I’m on the road to someplace.

Only one bit of news, not travel-related: Four New York nerds have designed, in good, old-fashioned, pizza-fueled fashion a decentralized, do-it-yourself alternative to Facebook.

Every time some mainstream commentator proclaims that “privacy is dead” because the millennials don’t care and are willing to give out every bit of personal information in exchange for some consumerist benefit, those very millennials go out and prove him wrong. Good to see people waking up about Facebook and other top-down, “we decide/you abide,” corporate marketing schemes.

Oh yeah. And FoxBusiness.com, on absolutely-no-in-fact-debunked evidence, speculates whether last weeks’ big stock market crackup was the work of terrorists. They get to the real point and note, “We don’t even have to wait for the terrorists. We did it to ourselves.”

Not sayin’ who “we” is. Wasn’t me.
