Probably other things, too. Fascinating study but not surprising. Another example of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/articles\/c\/confirmation_bias.htm\" target=\"_blank\">confirmation bias<\/a> in action.\n<li>Do you get junk emails from your acquaintances urging you to connect with them on LinkedIn? I used to get a fair number of those and thought, &#8220;Wow, for people who supposedly know me, these guys are sure idiots.&#8221; Like I&#8217;m <i>ever<\/i> going to join LinkedIn. Like I think it&#8217;s just wonderful for acquaintances to give my address to all and sundry. Then I got a fervently apologetic email from one of those folks saying that <i>he<\/i> hadn&#8217;t sent or authorized the emails and that LinkedIn had hacked his address book. Seems there&#8217;s now a lawsuit on that. Seems also that LinkedIn doesn&#8217;t really &#8220;hack&#8221; its users; it&#8217;s just reaaaallly, realllly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2013\/9\/22\/4758350\/linkedin-denies-hacking-users-email-accounts-after-lawsuit\" target=\"_blank\">fuzzy in the way it gets users&#8217; &#8220;permission&#8221;<\/a> to spam everybody they know.\n<li>The New! Improved! iPhone 5 &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/borepatch.blogspot.com\/2013\/09\/the-iphone-5-nsa-version.html\" target=\"_blank\">NSA version!<\/a>\n<li>Okay, that was funny. This is not. It appears that somebody has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/iphone-5s-fingerprint-scanner-hacked-2013-9\" target=\"_blank\">already hacked the much-vaunted fingerprint scanner<\/a> on those new iPhones. World record?\n<li>Also not funny. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbo.gov\/index?s=opportunity&#038;mode=form&#038;id=188d037a0e522f1c6dc7d2dbba5f076e&#038;tab=core&#038;_cview=0\" target=\"_blank\">Creepy<\/a>. But sort of funny, too. Radio? You want to take over <i>radio<\/i> stations? That is <i>so<\/i> twentieth century!\n<li>One <a href=\"http:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/politics\/2013\/08\/mesh-internet-privacy-nsa-isp\" target=\"_blank\">way to keep the secret police out of your computer<\/a>? And <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/International\/wireStory\/brazil-break-us-centric-internet-20275720\" target=\"_blank\">another<\/a>? Whether these are good ideas or not, I can&#8217;t say. Can only say that the greatest enemy of the surveillance state is &#8230; ticked-off technoids. And maybe other governments.\n<li>One more reason <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/09\/18\/man-gets-drunk-on-food-without-alcohol_n_3947099.html\" target=\"_blank\">to cut carbs<\/a>. Well, depending on your proclivities, maybe it&#8217;s a reason to eat more of them.
