This could go to my head.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seven<\/strong> fair entries. <strong>Ten ribbons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Six firsts<\/strong> and <strong>one second<\/strong> place.<\/p>\n<p>One <strong>Reserve Champion<\/strong>. (Second best art piece in any medium, adult division.)<\/p>\n<p>One <strong>Best of Class<\/strong>. (Top pencil drawing among all exhibitors.)<\/p>\n<p>One <strong>Special Award<\/strong>. (Which I believe actually just means that whether the entry was good or not, they&#8217;re recognizing that you worked your bazonka off creating it. This went to the Memory Necklace, which was indeed an epic project.)<\/p>\n<p>What was coolest &#8212; well beyond the ribbon swag and whatever money they send me a month or two from now &#8212; is that the best awards went to the best pieces.<\/p>\n<p>You know how you often look at these things and wonder, &#8220;Why the heck did the judges choose <i>that<\/i> one over <i>this<\/i> one?&#8221; Well, with me they got it just right.<\/p>\n<p>Reserve Champ went to my most striking pastel &#8212; the piece I personally thought was the top of all my seven entries. Best of Class went to one of the most exquisite (if I do say so myself), detailed, striking colored pencil drawings I&#8217;ve ever done. And the Special went to a project that was a real labor of love &#8212; and a real labor.<\/p>\n<p>Pix below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/ClaireWolfe\/2014\/08\/20\/dont-let-this-go-to-my-head\/fair_fourdrawings_082014\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18406\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/ClaireWolfe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Fair_FourDrawings_082014-450x792.jpg\" alt=\"Fair_FourDrawings_082014\" width=\"450\" height=\"792\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-18406\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These four are mine. Reserve Champ at the top. Best of Class at the bottom. The middle two you might recognize from BHM. I didn&#8217;t photograph the fifth art entry because personally I think it&#8217;s hideous. But it did win a blue ribbon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/ClaireWolfe\/2014\/08\/20\/dont-let-this-go-to-my-head\/fair_memorynecklace_082014\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18407\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/ClaireWolfe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Fair_MemoryNecklace_082014-450x337.jpg\" alt=\"Fair_MemoryNecklace_082014\" width=\"450\" height=\"337\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-18407\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That &#8220;Special&#8221; ribbon might only mean &#8220;A for Effort,&#8221; but it&#8217;s sure pretty.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/ClaireWolfe\/2014\/08\/20\/dont-let-this-go-to-my-head\/fair_table-doorwaytothesun_082014\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18405\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/ClaireWolfe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Fair_Table-DoorwaytotheSun_082014-450x342.jpg\" alt=\"Fair_Table-DoorwaytotheSun_082014\" width=\"450\" height=\"342\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-18405\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And they did find a lovely place to display &#8220;Doorway to the Sun,&#8221; after all.
