Hm. If I can find those old files or get somebody to OCR the book for me, maybe a Kindle edition is in order?\n<li>Ken at Popehat says yes, there is more to that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.popehat.com\/2014\/09\/02\/patrick-mclaw-skepticism-and-law-enfocements-obliging-stenographers\/\" target=\"_blank\">incident of the teacher<\/a> arrested over his SF novels. Ken also opens with the best description of media-cop relations I&#8217;ve ever read. (H\/T jed in comments)\n<li>Making the rounds today: Video of a polite young man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CZh9xumD1cQ\" target=\"_blank\">shutting down cops<\/a> who demand to search his home.\n<li>Eichmann: still evil but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/09\/03\/books\/book-portrays-eichmann-as-evil-but-not-banal.html\" target=\"_blank\">perhaps not so banal<\/a>.\n<li>Same old story, same old song. Once again everybody&#8217;s a &#8220;terrorist&#8221; except of course <a href=\"http:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/fbi-national-domestic-threat-assessment-omits-islamist-terrorism\/\" target=\"_blank\">the actual terrorists<\/a>. (per Shel in comments)\n<li>Economics <a href=\"http:\/\/www.libertylawsite.org\/book-review\/the-springfield-school-of-economics\/\" target=\"_blank\">as explained by <i>The Simpsons<\/i><\/a>. I&#8217;m not sure whether it&#8217;s a bad thing or a good thing that somebody proposes to teach economic principles this way <i>in college<\/i>.\n<li>Not being urban, I hadn&#8217;t heard of the phenomenon of turning HOV lanes <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mysanantonio.com\/terrihall\/2014\/08\/reason-foundation-comes-unhinged-at-populist-revolt-against-tolls\/\" target=\"_blank\">into toll lanes<\/a> for those prosperous enough to pay for better &#8220;highway service.&#8221; Figures that Robert Poole (who loves all things &#8220;privatization&#8221; even when they&#8217;re really just all things crony capitalist) would be for it and agin&#8217; the activists opposing it.\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Work&#8217;s for Squares.&#8221; The (unsurprising?) decline of labor-force participation.
