But … well, I think it’s interesting & very positive & it seems a lot of you agree or are already way ahead of me.)

Why are 46 U.S. war ships and 7,000 Marines going to Costa Rica? Drug interdiction? The usual excuse, but these hardly seem the right tools for the job. Humanitarian missions? So they say, but WTF? How many starving Costa Ricans have you heard about lately? (Not to mention that “right tools for the job” thing again.) This comes at the same moment CR’s nearest neighbor, Panama, has erupted in violent, sometimes fatal labor unrest. And the unrest is centered (so far) on one of the provinces directly on CR’s border. Probably totally unrelated. Who knows? All you can say is the usual: the official story will turn out to be BS.

The labor unrest in Panama was sparked by something called Law 30. Yeah, I know nobody but Panamanians (and a few former tourists 🙂 ) care what the Panamanian government does. But bear with me a moment. It appears their legislature is taking a few lessons in bad government from the U.S. Congress. Law 30 pretended to be about aviation. Instead, nine separate bills were bundled into one and fast-tracked to passage while the legislature was surrounded by a protective ring of riot police. The new law bundle, among other things, lets public-works projects go ahead with scanty environmental review, increases penalties for fake ID, and makes it easier for cops to get away with crimes they commit while on duty. Hey, maybe there’s even something in there about aviation. It could happen. See? Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi (not to mention Newt Gingrich and dozens of other present and former legislative “leaders”) aren’t just domestic crooks and tyrants — their methods are a great inspiration to all the world!

Do you care about the World Cup? I don’t care about the World Cup. Do you care about LeBron James? I don’t care about LeBron James. Do you care about Lindsay Lohan? Cheery.

And on the lighter side, have you paid a visit to Freekibble lately?
