Then this morning, friend G. sent me <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techdwell.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">to this site<\/a>. And this 192-square-foot house, the Axia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/ClaireWolfe\/2014\/10\/12\/now-this-tiny-house-looks-cool\/techdwellhouse_101214\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18981\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/ClaireWolfe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/TechDwellHouse_101214-450x300.jpg\" alt=\"TechDwellHouse_101214\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-18981\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While there&#8217;s a suspicious dearth of info (the link to TechDwell&#8217;s pdf brochure is 404), it&#8217;s a for-real thing. Portland, Oregon, is building a <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyhousetalk.com\/portland-tiny-homes-for-homeless\/\" target=\"_blank\">village of these<\/a> for the homeless. <\/p>\n<p>If they&#8217;re as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/portland\/index.ssf\/2014\/08\/tiny_houses_for_portlands_home.html\" target=\"_blank\">easy to build<\/a> (and unbuild) as they say &#8230; well, that&#8217;s remarkable. On price, on tech, on a number of measures, they&#8217;d beat the usual overpriced tiny house hands down. (That is, if somebody doesn&#8217;t get carried away and order all their yuppified options.)<\/p>\n<p>Yes, yes, go ahead and tell me you can build something like this yourself out of old pallets, cardboard boxes, and strapping tape for much less than TechDwell&#8217;s basic price. That&#8217;s true. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joelsgulch.com\" target=\"_blank\">Joel&#8217;s<\/a> Secret Lair is similar and cost less. But the tech on this is intriguing, as is the ability to tear it down and move it. Also, you can add your own options (solar, rainwater catchment, etc.) for less than they cost from TechDwell.<\/p>\n<p>The look reminds me a bit of the <a href=\"http:\/\/prefabcosm.com\/home\/Unit-One-Cabins-Houses\/\" target=\"_blank\">UnitOne cabin<\/a>. But if the TechDwell Axia is all it appears to be, I&#8217;d rather have an Axia.<\/p>\n<p>Gads, what a great artist&#8217;s studio. Or guest house. Or pool house.
