Well, the USDA isn&#8217;t the only government outfit <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/93795\/the-return-of-the-1000-down-mortgage\" target=\"_blank\">that has a darned weird idea<\/a> of how mortgages should be handled in the post-bubble world. Sheesh!\n<li>Via LRC.com: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/news\/opinion\/glenn_greenwald\/2010\/08\/02\/privacy\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Project Vigilant<\/a>. Do you get the feeling that the patriotic rhetoric &#8212; and the allegedly private financing &#8212; are just a smoke-screen?\n<p><lI>Via Joel and a whole lot of other places as the news spreads: <i>Such<\/i> a surprise! The feds <a href=\"http:\/\/news.cnet.com\/8301-31921_3-20012583-281.html\" target=\"_blank\">were lying about not storing all those porno-scans<\/a>. Just like they lied about precisely how pornographic the scans actually are. Imagine that. Your government lying to you. Who would ever have thunk it?<\/p>\n<li>The economy sucks &#8212; but corporations are sitting on mountains of healthy cash, right? <i>Hoarding<\/i> cash, as the financial press tells us. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/the-biggest-lie-about-us-companies-2010-08-03\" target=\"_blank\">Uh &#8230; no.<\/a> Money quote: &#8220;A look at the facts shows that companies only have &#8216;record amounts of cash&#8217; in the way that Subprime Suzy was flush with cash after that big refi back in 2005.&#8221;\n<li>Okay, on the brighter side. There are all kinds of dog stories. Funny. Inspiring. Heartbreaking. Heartwarming. Some are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tonic.com\/article\/giving-dogs-their-freedom-one-fence-at-a-time\/\" target=\"_blank\">inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time<\/a>.
