He argued brilliantly against the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Writs_of_assistance\">writs of assistance<\/a> that were so contentious in the years before the American Revolution. (We could use him again these days.)  <\/p>\n<p>Otis unfortunately went crazy.
