A lawyer who crusades against bad settlements submits a hilarious brief pointing out that PETA has no standing to settle on the monkey&#8217;s behalf.\n<li>That new &#8220;liberal&#8221; pope has been anything but liberal &#8212; or transparent or different than recent old popes &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/thefreethoughtproject.com\/vatican-protected-diplomat-child-porn-allegations\/\" target=\"_blank\">when it comes to priests who sexualize kiddies<\/a>.\n<li>Think humans are violent toward each other? We <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/60431-do-animals-murder-each-other.html\" target=\"_blank\">don&#8217;t even rank in the top 30<\/a> species when it comes to killing our own kind. We still manage to be &#8220;exceptional,&#8221; though.\n<li>Anybody here read the <a href=\"http:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gaming\/2017\/09\/if-you-read-one-sci-fi-series-this-year-it-should-be-the-broken-earth\/\" target=\"_blank\">Broken Earth trilogy<\/a> by N.K. Jemisin? Annalee Newitz makes it sound fascinating, but given the politicalization of SF, I&#8217;m no longer sure that winning multiple Hugos says anything about the quality of a story.\n<li>&#8220;Coming out&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/maggiesfarm.anotherdotcom.com\/archives\/30535-Funny,-True.html\" target=\"_blank\">as an economic conservative<\/a>. (Too true to be funny.)\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mises.org\/blog\/combat-hate-make-government-weaker\" target=\"_blank\">To combat &#8220;hate,&#8221;<\/a> make government weaker.\n<li>According to somebody or another, the bible says the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/acts-of-faith\/wp\/2017\/09\/17\/the-world-as-we-know-it-is-about-to-end-again-if-you-believe-this-biblical-doomsday-claim\/\" target=\"_blank\">world is going to end.<\/a> Again. Next weekend. Sigh.
