It was one of my favorite things. This YUGE stuffed sheepdog. Beastie was about five feet long and so well made that it even had big button eyes and<\/em> substantial, well-sewn eyelids despite the fact that, being a true sheepdog, nobody ever saw them.<\/p>\n

Every morning when I’d put it back on my bed, I’d make sure it was seated comfortably. It always seemed happy.<\/p>\n

But since finishing the bedroom a week ago, I’ve been on a crusade to bring order to the entire house after nine months of construction and chaos. I’ve already hauled off several Kia-loads of donations, as well as tossed several trashcans full of the useless. <\/p>\n

Time to re-home my doggie; it had become clutter.<\/p>\n

With sadness, I donated the pup to the thrift store last week. It sold that very day. I hope somebody loves their new sheepdog.<\/p>\n

I’ve actually had two of those giant sheepdogs over the years, both $5 garage-sale purchases. The first I had to give away when I moved to the Desert Hermitage. As soon as I came back, I found its twin. It was obviously meant to be. But no more.<\/p>\n

I’m always claiming to love near-Japanese simplicity in my environment — then hitting those yard sales and second-hand stores.<\/p>\n

Now I’m stripping possessions down so there will be less rubble to shift during the next rounds of painting and finishing.<\/p>\n

Today while sorting through old CDs, I found this.<\/p>\n

I nearly tossed it before I decided to have a closer look. It’s a disc containing nearly every article I wrote up to the point it was made (2003). It’s got pieces from Sierra Times<\/em>, WorldNetDaily<\/em>, Loompanics, and Backwoods Home<\/em> (including articles BHM never put online).<\/p>\n

I owe some devoted person a big thank you and an apology; I can’t remember who made that disc or why. If it was you, please speak up!<\/p>\n

Although some of the articles are terribly dated — the newest of them is 15 years old, after all — there are a few “classics” in there that I might pull out and post somewhere.<\/p>\n
