In a soggy, soiled paper towel.<\/p>\n<p>I was thrilled.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s no ordinary sod. It&#8217;s holy ground from <a href=\"http:\/\/historyofmassachusetts.org\/where-did-the-shot-heard-round-the-world-happen\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lexington<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/topics\/american-revolution\/battles-of-lexington-and-concord\" target=\"_blank\">Green<\/a>, and a surprise gift from a friend.<\/p>\n<p>I potted it the next morning. Although a few blades instantly turned white, as if lesser soil had suddenly sucked all the chlorophyll out of them, 24 hours later the grass was thriving again. It&#8217;s still growing strong today.<\/p>\n<p>It truly felt (and feels) like a sacred object &#8212; much moreso than most items ever decreed holy by official decreers of holiness.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clairewolfe.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LexingtonGreen-02_052218.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairewolfe.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LexingtonGreen-02_052218-600x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-36776\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairewolfe.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LexingtonGreen-02_052218-600x800.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.clairewolfe.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LexingtonGreen-02_052218-338x450.jpg 338w, https:\/\/www.clairewolfe.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LexingtonGreen-02_052218-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.clairewolfe.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LexingtonGreen-02_052218.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oh, and you see that white stone at its roots? That&#8217;s Plymouth Rock. Well, it&#8217;s <em>a<\/em> Plymouth rock, off the beach where the Pilgrims landed.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not allowed to tell you the full story of these items, which is a pity because it&#8217;s got very funny parts and sad ones. And I suppose for caution&#8217;s sake I should say I&#8217;m lying about all of the above and it&#8217;s actually grass and rock from somebody&#8217;s regular old back yard. Believe what you wish.<\/p>\n<p>Suffice to say that the friend who &#8230; er, <em>obtained<\/em> the sacred (or not) relics is clearly not cut out to be a master criminal.
