Here it is, November 15, and it’s still shirtsleeve weather. The sun is shining. The air is still. The critters and I are reasonably well. There’s really not a thing to complain of and quite a lot to be joyful about.

But it’s been a discouraging few weeks, for reasons too petty to go into. If you got me started, I’d produce an embarrassing rant and I don’t want to do that.

So early this afternoon I shut the computer, packed Ava into the car, and took her out for a latte (her portion is the puppy cookie they hand out the drive-up window; I get the cheesecake-flavored 20-ounce, single-shot), a long walk, and a visit to the thrift store.

I returned home with my equanimity restored. I also returned home with these:

Yes, Christmas dogs. Two Santas, an angel, and a pup leaping out of a drum. The latter is a music box, whose tune I can’t identify, but whose dog wobbles back and forth as it plays.

Who thinks of things like this? I can’t imagine. Worse, it appears several different people thought of this. Because even though the pups all seem to be Newfoundlands or at least big hairy black breeds, these aren’t a set; they appear to be from at least two, possibly three, different makers. It’s really frightening, the way people’s minds work.

What’s even more frightening is that the music box sometimes plays on its own. I envision waking up in the middle of the night with a terrifyingly cheerful tune plinking away, like in a horror movie about homicidal toys. If so, I may end up bludgeoning that one to death, possibly with one of its handy canine companions.

But you understand why I had to have them. Right?

…

Ahem. Well, anyhow, now that my mood is restored, I’ll go off and prepare a links post.

Cheers.

I have no business being disgruntled or depressed.
