<\/a><\/p>\n(That straight-on view looks a little kerflotchy, but that’s because the ceiling slopes three inches to the left and that rust-colored ceiling beam (soon to be painted white for less visibility) is placed over a rafter that doesn’t quite run true. Don’t worry, it’s not your eyeballs or my camera playing tricks.)<\/p>\n
When we began, I envisioned shelves held up by brackets. The Monk persuaded me that a structure of rails and vertical supports would be sturdier. I’m not as happy with the appearance or the diminution of useful shelf area, but I think he’s right.<\/p>\n
If all is going as planned, he’s picking up more shelving right now. By this afternoon — with a little bit of luck — the front framing will be done and a pair of bi-fold doors in place. I’m hoping I’ve got enough leftover drywall to finish the small part of front that won’t be occupied by doors.<\/p>\n
But mostly I’m looking forward to getting all those supplies back under cover and properly organized. <\/p>\n
I found food I didn’t even know I had. (I wonder how bad that nice ground gourmet coffee will be after spending several years in a plastic box?) The openness of the new pantry and better organization will prevent that from happening again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
The Wandering Monk had to quit early on Tuesday because the lumberyard ran out of the shelving we needed. Yesterday, while he went off to tend to someone else’s work, I painted, then stashed a few of the more in-the-way items on the shelves.
