Sometimes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redstate.com\/alexparker\/2019\/01\/08\/polyana-viana-beats-up-robber\/\" target=\"_blank\">you don&#8217;t need a gun<\/a> to deal with a thug, even if you&#8217;re a girl.\n<li>OTOH, it might be nice to possess <a href=\"http:\/\/zelmanpartisans.com\/?p=5750\" target=\"_blank\">some of this imaginary gun gear<\/a> that politicians and journalists seem to think we have. (Nice one, Bear.)\n<li>Well, for once a police department <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/01\/07\/cop-caught-on-camera-shooting-small-barking-dog\/\" target=\"_blank\">did the right thing<\/a>, and did it quickly, too, when a hired thug shot a small dog merely for barking.\n<li>Bankruptcy filings are down &#8212; which turns out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/bankruptcy-filings-are-at-a-10-year-low-but-thats-not-necessarily-good-news-2019-01-07\" target=\"_blank\">not necessarily to be good news<\/a>.\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/01\/05\/books\/authors-pay-writer.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Does it pay to be a writer?&#8221;<\/a> Writers tend to be whiny b*tches and this NYT article is bursting with entitlement and intellectual snobbery; but it holds a core of truth. The Internet has made life vastly harder for professional writers.\n<li>This is from last month, but I just saw it and wanted to follow up on an earlier post: The guy who wanted a legal age change to make him more attractive to young women <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-europe-46425774\" target=\"_blank\">was denied<\/a>. Somewhere in Europe, a spark of sanity remains.\n<li>Not so much in Portland, Oregon, though. One of the four professors who pranked all those grievance-study journals with ludicrously false articles <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.simplejustice.us\/2019\/01\/08\/no-one-expects-the-irb\/\" target=\"_blank\">is in trouble at his university<\/a> for &#8220;conducting unauthorized experiments&#8221; upon those foolish editors and peer reviewers.\n<li>And Brad over at Wendy&#8217;s place writes about his discovery of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wendymcelroy.com\/news.php?item.9283.2\" target=\"_blank\">the latest fiendish plan<\/a> of the patriarchy. \ud83d\ude42\n<li>Do you really want Alexa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2019\/1\/6\/18170575\/kohler-konnect-bathroom-smart-gadgets-numi-intelligent-toilet-ces-2019\" target=\"_blank\">listening in on your bathroom functions<\/a>? Kohler thinks you might. But of course, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/ces-2019-has-lavviebot-litter-box-a-smart-place-for-cats-to-poop\/\" target=\"_blank\">this &#8220;smart&#8221; kitty litter box<\/a> would be a bargain if you can pick it up for $500 or so.
