The traces for deaths attributed to pneumonia for the seven flu seasons (the CDC defines flu season as starting in week 40 each year) are straight from the CDC data.\u00a0 I added the heavier red trace “Average 2013-2019” and the lower trace “2020 Difference from average.”\u00a0 Any mistakes are mine.<\/p>\n

Early in this season the pneumonia deaths were slightly less than the average from the previous years, but suddenly there was a significant drop.\u00a0 The last available week’s data shows a difference of about 1500 deaths per week compared to the average.<\/p>\n

What does it mean?\u00a0 Thanks to some sleuthing by members of the forum, we know that revised CDC guidelines<\/a> allow assigning “Covid-19” as cause of death without a confirming test.<\/p>\n

A reasonable explanation is that some deaths formerly attributed to pneumonia are now being classified as caused by covid-19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
