- Football coach unilaterally repeals the 2A for his players. Tyrants come in all sizes.
- Tyrants also come in the standard ATF size (and get scorned behind their backs like tyrants everywhere).
- And it seems that courts, at least, have not come so far from the days of reefer madness. (Via Codrea)
- You think you’ve seen creepy uses of Big Data? Here’s a creepy use of Big Data. And the detective story that uncovered how F*c*b**k publicly (and I suspect, illegally) linked a shrink with her patients.
- Weird. Hitler’s 2.7-mile-long resort. Now a seaside apartment complex.
- Snowden. Live in theaters, September 14th.
- Just what America’s honeybees don’t need: death by anti-Zika spraying. Notification to beekeepers fails drastically.
- SpaceX explosion. Happened during a “propellant fill.”
- No, Salon, commuting a few dozen sentences is not a move toward ending the war on (some) drugs. Obama’s had nearly eight years to work toward ending that war and he hasn’t let the effort interfere with his golf game.
A Devil’s Advocate moment: Think about the coaches’ viewpoints, and then recall the frequency of news reports of criminal behavior by college football players. In today’s world, coaches are running scared of all manner of social problems. For some coaches, a ban seems like the easiest way to avoid a problem.
I’m not saying that I approve. I just look for reasons.
Injuries per 100,000 participants:
Hunting with firearms – 41;
Running/jogging – 72;
Weight lifting – 328;
Exercise activity – 460;
Cheerleading – 1,229;
Tackle football – 5,197.

Sorry, Desertrat. I’m not buying it. If he’s worried about injury, liability, or bad publicity, why isn’t the coach also banning knives, baseball bats, liquor, cars, sex, and all the other things attitudinal young men use to get in trouble?
And good stats, LarryA!
I’m just talking about what I think is the coach’s reasoning. I didn’t say I thought it was rational or workable. 🙂
True, that. I’d add, though, that I don’t believe the coach is exactly reasoning at all. Just jerking his knee.
Well, pity the poor coach. He’s dealing with a big bunch of age 18 to 22 guys, loaded with testosterone and all loving physical contact. Many are not the brightest stars in the heavens. Some of these guys would put on pads and block light poles. And he’s trying to “Win one for the alumni-checkbook Gipper”.
Probably feebly attempting to cope with booze and sex, etc., as well.
Me, I’d rather herd jackrabbits.
“Win one for the alumni-checkbook Gipper”.
Ayup.
