Gads. Joel. If there’s such a thing as reincarnation (and I hope not), I’ll return in the next life as Joel’s brain if I’m really good.
I have nothing to say today. I’m overwhelmed by work, by life, by soul-baring blogitude and even more touchingly soul-baring comments. Just go read Joel. He’s freaking brilliant and funny as all get out.
Me, I’m declaring a Mental Health Day. Off to play hooky. Driving to the Wonderous Place of Cheap Doors and Windows (and plumbing fixtures and floorings). Tempting myself with the Wonders of Wal-Mart. Reviving my spirits at the Discount Vitamin Store. Indulging in Junque Shopping.
Good-bye cruel world. I’ll be back to work tomorrow.

Aw, shucks. (toes dirt, wanders away…)
Well, I guess the thought of being reincarnated as your brain was a tad bit over the top. Dangerous place to be. Next time (if there must be a next time), I’ll come back as a toadstool. Or a rock. Yeah, a rock. That sounds peaceful.
Off to play hooky in 20 minutes … 19 minutes … 18 …
Used bookstores. Flea markets on sunny days. Cool, old, mom-n-pop shops(especially hardware). Those “freak shops” near colleges. Goodwill and similar thrift stores. Inexpensive ways to bring your faith in humanity back, and meet interesting people.
Or try a tea shop. An art gallery. A theater showing foreign or classic films. Take a stroll around a park and feed the ducks. Or find a petting zoo. And end up eating at a Rathskeller. (Do they still exist?)
“Inexpensive ways to bring your faith in humanity back,…”
Well, that might take a little more effort.
Hooky is a great rejuvenator, it actually lets your brain do it’s own thing rather than what you make it do….and who knows where it will take you LOL…..
Just don’t make me come and rescue you from IKEA !!!
Enjoy your mental health day, me I spent the day learning how to do pressure canning. Learned lots and lots of new stuff. next week is learning how to make sausage.
“Inexpensive ways to bring your faith in humanity back,…”
I have faith that each individual human I meet will act in ways they believe to be in their best interest.
I have faith that most humans are self-centered and generally clueless about those around them.
I have faith that given a choice, most humans will choose the option that brings them the most immediate gratifaction, whether it be physical, emotional or spriritual.
I don’t know to much about Joel, but as a fellow hermit I can simply say: it’s worth it….and the less you own, the free-er you truly are……
