- “Three deputies equals one SWAT team.” A memory from reader ΛΕΟΝΙΔΑΣ (a former LEO) of a moment at the dawn of the “bad new days” of total militarization.
- Russian villagers defend their town. (Tip o’ hat to Matt, another.)
- A thorough history of “The Nixon Shock: How Nixon stopped backing the dollar with gold and changed global finance, a 40-year-old decision that still echoes in Greece, Ireland, and the U.S.” And a perfect example of how sloppily the most momentous decisions get made by Our Masters.

- Thiel Grants. An idea whose time has come.

The NBA has been poaching up and coming basketball players directly from High School and sometimes from College teams for a decade or so not. It’s about time someone from the “academic” side figured out how much true talent and opportunities were being missed.
I get significant enjoyment from sitting in a class room or meeting and listening to people give thier higher-education resumes, masters this, ph-d that etc. The look on their faces when I tell them High School only is priceless. It is really funny when they realize I do the same work they do, same pay scale and duty position (the position does not require a degree). I tell them I learned everything I need to know from the internet.
I have spent the summer taking a college course on the History of the Holocaust. Therefore the story about Natalie was extremely touching and made history come alive again. Thanks for including it in today’s post. I shall never forget what history has taught me so that I make sure it is never repeated.
