Here it is: The “before” picture of the rifle a reader generously donated for me to customize and raffle.
Next step: Sometime in September I’ll be posting two or three custom camo candidate designs for you to vote on. Sometime in October (assuming no major glitches), I’ll have the rifle painted and ready for your online inspection.
I like it!
Thank you, Kent! Me, too!
Although I’ve always been super-fond of Mini-14s, an AK really presents a better “canvas” for painting on. Lots of potential.
It looks like a Romanian ‘G’, soild & reliable. Camo could be nice but how about a ‘zombie chop’? Make it a ‘Scare a liberal gun’.http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83958&highlight=zombie+chop
I think this link will work okay.

Steve — thanks for further identifying this gun. (I knew AK but don’t know what variant.)
But on that zombie chop … YIKES! It looks extremely cool, no doubt, but I concur with the guy who said it looks at least as dangerous to the shooter as to the intended target! I can just picture the raffle winner suing me because he fired the rifle and the recoil chopped his or her shoulder off!
mmm…kalashnikov….mmm…
It could also be a WASR, pretty much the same, put together by Century Arms & a Romanian company. Either way it should be in good shape, great chrome barrel and reliable.
The Zombie chop just looks evil. The stock isn’t blade metal and is dull, just painted metallic. I have one of these I’m going to get around putting on a bad WASR that just needed some shop time. Some years ago these kits were dirt cheap and I laid away a bunch. of kits. They’re fun projects for the winte3r.

Ooooooo, just like Christmas ;^) This is going to be fun.
Perhaps you should see if Ken Melson would autograph it. That would be a sure boost for ticket sales!
1911A1 — An excellent idea! But when I picture breaking into Melson’s new “rubber room” with AK in hand … somehow, I just don’t think that would be well-received. Seems my intentions might be misunderstood.
Just give it to me and I swear I will never sue you in my life! No raffle needed.
Claire,
The folks over on the FAL files have a list of elements for perfect rifle pics.
>On a clean floor with toes caught in the pic or a nature scene.
>The rifle must have a magazine.
>There should should be a bottle of the good stuff.
(large & well tested)
>Ashtray with a big stogey.
>Acoutrements get a bonus.
LOL, Danny, that’s a great list. Does a big old hound dog count as an accoutrement?
Sure it would. I’ve even seen CATS in some.
(and i’m a cat guy)
