Afternoon roundup

  • So much for “democracy.” Farewell transparency (we hardly knew ye). Welcome murder.gov. (The Al-Awlaki assassination was even worse than we thought.)
  • If Bank of America wants to charge new fees, that’s their business. If customers don’t want to put up with it, that’s their business. (Of course, the fees are yet another predictable unintended consequence of gummint, but that’s another story.) But look what BofA does to sell the idea. Does it go to the customers? To the markets? Nooooooooo. Another Sign of Our Times.
  • The DoJ and the WH are furiously scared of the Fast & Furious truth coming out.
  • Here’s the whole story of “the Lemon Tree Lady.” Tragedy and farce in one.
  • Popehat does a James Burke on the end of gun control. (Tip o’ hat to Fred.)
  • Oath Keepers and Wayseekers join in an effort to occupy Occupy Wall Street.
  • Another scientific paradigm shift. Oliver has an excellent take on its implications — not the scientific ones, but the implications of being open to new ways of seeing things.

Re: The Lemon Tree Lady, interesting comments section, especially the comment by Lockwood, C.Ht September 26, 2011 at 2:13 am

As for the situation, maybe we all should get p.o. boxes and never give out our true location…..

I think I would have run the lemon tree through a chipper and scattered it all over some “public [sic] property”. Then I would have told the fed goons where to find it and told them to collect it at will. It wouldn’t have “disappeared” that way, so no violation. Right?

What a radical idea in Facebook dominated world. 🙂 Been doing that for decades and cloaking my identity on line as well. Mind boggling to me how many people think that is unnecessary and paranoid. It gets harder now that most govies insist on a physical address on your official papers. Even the Post Offices insists you provide them with a physical address before they rent you a box. I’m getting to the point where I may not have my papers in order for much longer.

My papers were not in order and I recently got caught and had to get them (mostly) in order to avoid the inevitable conclusion of any interaction with The State (death). It wasn’t cheap and considering my financial situation, it has been very painful. It may be a long time before I recover.

Would I change anything? No. And I probably won’t correct the “issues” I have with “my papers” now unless I am forced at gunpoint to do so. Again. I wouldn’t be surprised if “my papers” don’t stay in order (as much as they are now), either.

Funny thing is, even considering the financial damage done to me by the agents of The State after getting caught living free, I figure it still saved me a lot of money and annoyance over the years. Now, if only I had put some of that saved money away to deal with getting caught…

That’s the only thing I liked about Nevada, DMV accepts po boxes and as long as you kept that box going and renewed the DL online every 4 years, you could be in 6 states and no one would know better……physical addresses I’ve used have been places I USE to live at, but specify clearly that all mail is to go to the (current) po box address…..

I love the hypocrisy of Obama and his cronies when it comes to terrorists. I just want to get this straight so enhanced interrogations is bad, but having a secret panel put American citizens on a “kill list” without any due process is OK. Yes, that is so much better. This should scare the crap out of every American. Who gets to decide who is a “terrorist” and who gets to decide what level of “speaking out” constitutes a death sentence?

Here(Kentucky) P.O. boxes are acceptable-supposedly,they aren’t for tax returns, but I’ve known people who have only given P.O. box addresses with no problems(one guy lived on a houseboat with no engine-it was tied up to a tree on some of his family’s property, illuminated with candles and heat/cooking provided by an alcohol stove). Generally, as long as you throw money(property taxes and so on) at them, they don’t care. Look at your driver’s license. How accurate is that information? More often than not, it’s way off course. whether you Papers Are In Order really depends on who’s looking at them, especially tax forms. It’s left very much open to the interpretation of whoever is looking at them, especially tax forms. A coworker told an interesting tale on that order-he kept meticulous records of his small business, got audited and the auditor interpreted the rules different than he did. Short-short version, they apparently make it up as they go along.

Indeed, Scott. Talk to some folks who have to live through a “Medicare/Medicaid” audit/inspection of a health care facility. Those “inspectors” absolutely make it up as they go along, and have for many years. All of the documentation has to be “what they want to see.” It has little or nothing to do with the truth or what actually happened.

    One big reason I quit…

Except for my use of my actual name as an online moniker I have been “off the radar” for several years now. (8 yrs?)
I use a PO Box and do not receive anything at my actual residence.

The only “papers” I still have are a permit to drive and a permit to drive my possession upon the states roadways.

I don’t even slightly think that I am protected by doing so … IF The State wants to find me and imprison me it has Hundreds of Millions of people to steal from to finance its search for me and entirely too many goons willing to do so.

    ====================

On a different subject allow me to post this clarification.

The Board of Directors of Oath Keepers has not, Repeat, HAS NOT “officially” aligned us [OK] with ANY “Occupy” organizations to date.

There has been “NO Official decision” by the Board of Directors on the activation of any “OCCUPY” movement.

Oath Keepers is NOT a part of “Wayseers” or any of the “Occupy” movement organizations nor are They “officially” any part of Oath Keepers.
    =====================

With that said I am afraid that this ridiculous misstep will be the death of the organization.
I shall be leaving if it does become “Official”.
[No a posting on the OK website, or any other website, does not equal an Official Announcement by the Board of Directors.]

We have had this problem of misguided and over zealous reportage before.
Sadly it may have killed the organization this time.

Gooch. thank you for the word on that. I got the announcement and the links straight from Elias Alias and ran them because I like and trust him even though he and I don’t always (or even usually) agree on tactics. I have zero relationship with any of the organizations in question.

If either of you want to send me updates on whatever the relationship between Oath Keepers, Wayseekers, and Occupy Wall Street really is (or isn’t), I’ll be glad to post them. Meanwhile, I used one of Elias’s Oath Keeper/Wayseeker links again in the rant I put up today. If you want to comment on that, by all means do.

    Thanks Claire.

We have scheduled a Board of Directors meeting to address this issue on Wednesday and get it [and others] settled once and for all.

The reaction to this has been phenomenal. We have had many members send in their “I Quit” notices and so far Two Board of Directors have resigned over this and another related issue.

I will simply repost the above to your new blog IF that is alright with you?

    stay safe,

    g

Personally I am “sick” about this whole thing.
Oath Keepers should NEVER have been connected to this pointless street theater in any way at all.
Three years of hard earned street cred crushed in an instant in a misguided attempt to “gain access” to the masses.
