BHM (and this blog) to go dark Wednesday, Jan. 18

I just heard from Dave Duffy, who posted this on his blog.

Backwoods Home’s website will go dark for 12 hours tomorrow, Wednesday, January 18 — joining Wikipedia, Reddit, Mozilla, and other sites to demonstrate what the Internet would look like under the rule of SOPA, PIPA, and the evil cabal of government and its crony corporate owners.

I wish we’d had more time to make the announcement, but my heart cheered when I got Dave’s email.

See you after the blackout! Under the reign of crony censorship, that might not be the case.

I’ll save Wednesday’s planned blog entry until Thursday.

I’ll be going offline all day. A good day to organize my files.

Actually, I hope they pass SOPA. Hear me out. I have no love of the legislation or the high-chair tyrants behind it. If passed, SOPA will only harm the people who want it passed. The rest of us will get our own internet, an amorphous blob of a network that is ever-changing, ever evolving, and FEDGOV will not be invited. It will be an app that turns a smartphone into a network node. FEDGOV, the RIAA, TimeWarner, Rupert Murdoch, will be left in their own little tangle of CAT5 and regulation. The rest of us will have a functioning internet full of commerce, music, videos, amusing pictures of cats, and such things.
