- Good for people who’ve suffered brain injuries that affect speech. Bad in the long run for privacy.
- National Geographic is usually pretty good. But it appears their new series, which starts next week, sets out only to portray us all as loons. So much for progress. (Tip o’ hat to H.)
- Here’s a perfect example of the long arm of the U.S. government.
- Might not agree with this guy 100%. But bless his noble heart. (Nice backgrounder on him, too.) I’ll soon be reading his book.
- And here’s another doctor with courage — though it may be too little, too late for millions of children: “Ritalin Gone Wrong.”
- Thugette. Every time I see stuff like this, I recall how, just five or six years ago, we were constantly assured that Tasers would be solely used in encounters that would otherwise call for deadly force. The term “compliance tool” was never uttered. Now it appears they’re merely “educational devices.”
- Of course the lie about inflation is even bigger than this says.
Well, I suppose the Dollar General Store near me must be run by loonies,then-they have some items(like bottled water) clearly labelled as “Emergency Preparation Item”. I think postal carriers are issued pepper spray/zappers(not tasers)for biting dogs, but very seldom actually use them. My Dad was a mailman back in the ’70s and was issued stuff called”Halt”, aerosol unpleasantness of some sort.
If I had children, there’s no way I’d give them Rytalin-my guess is,generally speaking, boys are rowdier than girls, but calm down later on. That’s how I remember being, anyway.
You don’t understand Claire – the man with the Dogs didn’t follow the imaginary RULES. If we don’t have RULES then we will all go around with loose dogs. Then cats. Anarchy will unravel the very foundation of our society and innocent little critters will die! They’ll be rioting in the streets, PetSmart will no longer be able to employ the masses, and it will be TEOTWAWKI –
…sorry – I forgot I moved from Kali many years ago.
Significant that it is U.S. *neuroscientists* that are interested in this. See Wikipedia below.
”Neuroscientist
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: A neuroscientist (sometimes also called a neurobiologist) is an individual who studies the scientific field of neuroscience or any of its related sub-fields. Neuroscience (neurobiology) as a distinct discipline separate from anatomy, neurology, physiology, psychology, or psychiatry is fairly recent, aided in large part by the advent of newer, faster computing methods and neuroimaging techniques.
These scientists generally work as researchers within a college, university, government agency, or private industry setting.”
Why not neurologists? Or neuropsychiatrists? As soon as any positive breakthrough is discovered, it is the ill-user who’s first to jump on it. It will be interesting to watch where this goes.
“There is some evidence that perception and imagery may be pretty similar in the brain,” coauthor Dr Brian Pasley said. If you can understand the relationship well enough between the brain recordings and sound, you could either synthesize the actual sound a person is thinking or just write out the words with a type of interface device.”
I’d like to read what evidence there is between perception and imagery; and specifically how one can *hear* sounds that a person is thinking. Until they can show proof of this, the brain recordings would seem to me to be a matter of _interpretation_ of the recordings rather than of actual sound-thoughts. The difference can be crucial to a person being interrogated by a “neuroscientist”.
Yes indeed… the medical “system” now is terminally broken. Unfortunately, that’s partly because it IS a “system.” What is needed isn’t a new “system.” What is needed is freedom. Freedom to choose, to take risk, to experiment and learn, to pay for things with our own resources, to take care of ourselves without nanny telling us what to eat or preventing us from getting the foods and medicines we wish to use.
Hah! And a big fat “I told you so” to all the people that laughed at me for wearing a tin foil hat to block out the government’s mind control beams from all those cellphone towers! Who’s laughing now?
Just you and the Spankhurts ladies, Ken K — smarter than the rest of us:

Just because a store has a few items labeled as emergency prep supplies doesn’t mean the owners, managers or staff are themselves preppers.
Many stores have items usefull for preppers that aren’t marked as such, and they probably aren’t preppers either.
If you had seen the teasers I saw you probably would think that all preppers are loonies if you weren’t reading BHM or this blog.
Walking your dogs off leash if there is the possibility of running into wildlife or dogs belonging to other people (probably also off-leash) is stupid. But it’s the kind of stupidity that should be cured, if needed, by the other dog-owner who has his dog on a leash, with a judicious application of lead to the off-leash dogs, should they attack his dog.
Stupidity cannot be cured by other stupid people, like the thug who shot him in the back with a TASER.
Giving kids hard drugs to try to get them to pay attention in school and quit jumping on the bed will probably someday go down as one of the worst f-ups in modern ethical and medical history.
