I don’t understand the concern of cops for guns without permits. The permit doesn’t make the gun more or less dangerous; it doesn’t protect him from being shot at, by either criminal or honest homeowner trying to protect himself; besides, there’s no way for him to know who’s got a gun, with or without a permit, until he enters the house. Furthermore if an individual wouldn’t knowingly shoot at a cop, he won’t; if he doesn’t care, then he will shoot – with or without a permit.
“Knowingly” (shoot at a cop) seems to be the key word. Sounds like cops just want the advantage of “breaking and entering” without identifying themselves (or without identifying themselves in time for the homeowner to recognize who’s coming in the door). But that puts the onus of responsibility on the cops; if they get shot at, it’s their fault for poor communication. The permit has nothing to do with it.
Good stuff, all. Thanks, something to chew on this evening.
Re the South Dakota concealed carry story… here are some comments from a friend who lives there.
This is NOT what it seems – indeed, it is considered by several pro-RKBA organizations in South Dakota to be a step back. No SD drivers license is officially required for a CC permit today, and they point out this gives every peace officer an opportunity to demand a background check at any time for someone carrying openly or concealed. They point out that there are a few politicians in the legislature that watered down a “constitutional concealed carry” bill and turned it into a vehicle to let them play both sides of the fence and give police MORE power instead of less.
MamaLiberty — Thank you for the closer look! I’ve heard from some Wyoming activists that something similar was the case there. I agree, requiring any government documentation before “allowing” carry of sidearms is wrong.
Thank you kindly for the linkage. I hope your readers enjoyed their visit to my humble corner of the Interwebs.
As for “your awwwwww moment for today” . . . how about a Labrador who suddenly found himself in the middle of 300 bouncing tennis balls?

Claire Wolf, “you’re the best.” TYVM for what you do. I hope it’s made a difference, it has to me anyway.
I’m so thankful for all the freedomistas of the world. Even the ones I argue with.
Why, clark. Thank you. That was a great way to start a Monday. 🙂
I second your gratitude toward the freedomistas of the world, especially the ones who visit here, then Do Good Stuff in their lives.
I didn’t know you liked _The Hunger Games._ I’ve got a ticket to the midnight premiere here.
A quote from Lois Mcmaster Bujold, that could be used against people who think we libertarians are all a bunch of crazy killers: “If you think I’m a murderer…_why are you getting in my way?_”
