I’d prefer if it were EFF-U to the AZ state legislature, not the rest of us. I don’t recall any of us regular citizens requesting that stupid cyber bullying bill. It blatantly violates the 1st amendment. If Gov Brewer signs it, it will be legally challenged, likely struck down and then wind up costing the state of AZ a ton of money for no good reason. I would be suprised if Gov Brewer signs it. Suprised and disappointed. For the most part she has been pretty good about vetoing bad and poorly written bills.

We didn’t ask the legislature to rewrite the law allowing religious organizations exemption from providing contraception either, but fortunately that died in the state senate. It seems like this is the year for stupid legislation in AZ.

    Don’t vote for incumbents.

No, it’s legislative cop-out speak for “Oh, crap, they caught us in another attempted Bill of Rights coup.”

The 80 year old woman story made me think of something else- I’m not sure if any of you have found her blog or not, but you might enjoy Anne Cleveland’s “An Octogenarian’s Blog“. Anne is actually well over halfway through her octogenarian years now, and is a pretty good voice for freedom. Fighting for freedom for as long as she has been- without getting burned out- is probably even harder than landing a plane.

To be fair, the nuns around here still dress like that.

You have weird nuns there. You really do. I like them. I like to see nuns looking like nuns and not just like badly dressed social workers. But you know it’s pretty strange these days for teaching and pastoral nuns to run around town in full old habits as your locals do. More power to ’em, though.

Kent — what a great discovery. I hope I’m that good at that age.

Claire- Anne and I have corresponded for a couple of years now. She’s a great lady and was a pioneer in home schooling (back when it was “illegal”).

I can see the Nun thing being used effectively in a Coen brothers movie, or maybe one by Tarantino.

    Who are you?
    Sister Bertrille.
    [funny look]
    I’m a Nun.
You don’t look like a nun.
We don’t dress that way any more.
Are you sure you’re a nun?
    I’m operating undercover.

Played properly, that could work. Especially if the habit pun is avoided until the audience has concluded it isn’t going to appear.

Heh, I still can’t get thru that article without cracking up…..about the most I can muster is if it were in the USA it surely wouldn’t have been so polite once the cops got involved; and it’s a great testimony to how one/a few people can throw all sorts of chaos into play and others fall into it so easily…..

    I have read Anne’s blog a few times, I don’t remember how I found it….but she’s an inspiration….

I’m taking AZ off my “maybe they will do the right thing” list…..this is an epic fail…..I read about that stupidity right after I read Joel’s post on the ice cream vendors in the park fiasco, and it was deja vu for a minute there….People need to handle their own issues and not be looking for other people to handle it for them (thereby making everyone suffer in the process)…..
