- How many federal laws are there? Let us (try to) count the ways.
- A rarity in the rare book room.
- While I doubt that many readers of this blog want to walk down the street looking like this, it’s a brilliant thing that young fashionistas are thinking of avoiding facial-recognition cams. I could picture Jeremy and Cedra got up like that.
- I know your heart’s in the right place, Downsize DC. But if congressthingies have become so irresponsible and depraved that they don’t bother to read the bills they vote for, what makes you think that writing to the culprits and asking them to pass a law requiring themselves to read the bills is the answer???
- Spychips on the march.
- A bad idea whose time has come: a “national happiness index.” Run by the feds.
- But even before the same people who run the inflation and employment indexes get hold of it … maybe questing for happiness isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
- CNN says friendly things about Ron Paul. Hopeful things, even.
- I’ll bet most people here already do all this. Or practice similar online privacy techniques.
Finally, here’s your dog fix for today. First, the Pug Alphabet:
Second, while you’d have to be completely insane to feed Beneful to your dog (it being virtually a non-food; here’s the formula used to calculate those results) (And whatever you do, don’t get furrydoc started on the subject of Beneful unless you want a real earful!), what they’re doing here is pretty cool and amazing.

1.No Beneful for us. I feed my pup raw food (I buy it frozen) and she is doing great on it. She’s now a whopping 2lbs, 12oz!
2. They don’t even read some of the bills they introduce. Apparently some of them are written by lobbyists.
3. I cannot wait to see people sporting their disguises. Should make for interesting people watching!
I must be one of the completely insane then. *grins* I’m sure that’s true, no matter the dog food, though.
Beneful is the only food my OldWoman has been able to keep down for the past few years. We’ve tried just about everything out there(with the help of our veterinarian), including a raw diet. If it didn’t come back up within moments, it came out the other end in really, really unpleasant ways. Not just for us, but for her too. Nothing worse than a 100 lb german shepherd with painful diarrhea (think howling dog, while it’s coming out!) at 3am. For a while we thought is might be stomach cancer causing the problems, but no. It was food…so when we hit upon the Beneful working-she could eat, and she put weight back on, as well as her coat started to shine again-we quit searching for a different food.
Instead of requiring congressphlem to read before voting, how about having to qualify for the vote by passing a multiple choice test? One comprised of questions submitted and selected by the general public pertaining to the bill in question? You fail, no vote for you. Can’t reach a quorum of qualified voters? That bill doesn’t need to hit the floor.
It’s not related, but it’s up your alley Claire. We brought home a rescue dog. She’s beautiful, calm, and fits in well with our family. Sadly it does look like she’s been hit before, if I use the motion for “sit” she backs away. Other than that, she’s the perfect dog.
WolfSong — My apolgies! I didn’t mean to impugne your sanity. (Or maybe I meant to, but I was wrong to do so.) I feel for you and your dog for all that you’ve been through. Ugh. I’ve got one with a delicate gut — but nothing like you describe.
It’s unusual that Beneful is the one food your dog can eat. Often as not, it’s the cause, not the cure, for digestive problems. But I’m glad it works for you.
Game Kitten — Dogs are never off-topic in these parts. 🙂 Good for you for taking care of your rescue girl; sound as if she’ll soon learn she’s found a safe, loving home.
water lily — Keep us posted on the raw feeding. I’ve thought about it, but with three big beasts and not so much time or money it’s not a commitment I feel ready to make. If I’m ever down to one, I’m trying the raw diet, though.
ILTim — Makes sense to me. Now, if the congressphlem (great word) could only be made to go along …
My solution is just give them all the money they want to go on what used to be called junkets. Preferably overseas. Let them spend all the taxpayer dough they can spend on lavish trips for themselves, their families, their staffers, their mistresses, and their cronies — as long as they never set foot back in the U.S. to actually v*te on anything. Now that, they might go along with …
Oh diggity darn I am totally feeding my dogs the wrong thing… Blue buffalo here we come..
Uh oh. Have I put my foot in it? I really wouldn’t ever feed Beneful (except in a special circumstance like WolfSong’s). But other than some of those real crap “foods” like Beneful or Ole Roy that are loaded with grains and “byproducts” there are lots of good foods people don’t have to pay a mint for.
I feed Kirkland (Costco) foods to my dogs. They’re both affordable and very decent. Blue Buffalo … only in my dogs’ dreams!
The creepy thing about Beneful is that it masquerades as a health food. Look at that package, all covered with bright, healthy-looking vegetables. Don’t look at the ingredients.
Here’s a real quick, in-the-store-aisles, general rule for choosing a dog food, though. Look at the first five ingredients. If you see any grain other than rice or you see “byproducts” in the first five — leave it.
The masks are an interesting way to defeat facial recognition software, low-tech and cheap. It would be even better if those wearing disguises would climb the poles and destroy the cameras.
The bad bills we hate are written by lobbyists and unpaid interns (lobbyist in training). The Really, Really bad bills are written by the legislators themselves. They are never read, just a quick synopsis discussed in between fleecing sheep.
My dog had allergies attributed to her diet. Changed her diet as recommended by the vet. Allergies went away for 6 months. Vet said I was feeding the dog wrong, change diet. I realized then that her allergies (skin rashes) got bad about the same time my seasonal allergies flared. Allegy meds take care of the rash, although I still feed her a healthy and mostly home made diet.
National happiness index? The “Happy,Happy, Joy,Joy” bit from Ren and Stimpy comes to mind..
It’s all good Claire. 😉 My sanity’s been question for many, many years, so once more is no biggie. LOL!
My hound even has our vet shaking her head. There is no way that Beneful should work, but it does. And, as much as we want to give her something of better quality, I am so afraid of the painful upsets returning (mostly because it hurts OldWoman so much, but also because it throws the whole house into chaos), so we just feed her what works. What can ya do? She’s an odd, odd girl. Fits right in here. 🙂
The National Happiness Index would reach record highs if they legalize drugs.
Record … highs, Matt? Groaaaaaaaan ….
There’s a simpler way to fool facial-recognition software: Grow your bangs out, and drape them so they cover one eye. That’s it. We found that out because my brother was dating a girl who wore her hair so it covered one eye, and the digital cameras with the face-finder feature couldn’t tell she was a person unless she pulled her bangs back.
I noticed that all the make-up examples in that link showed both eyes clearly. Eyes are key to facial recognition. They’d do better hiding one.
My last two dogs each lived to be 19 years old. They were both fed a cup or two (depending on what else I had) of Pedigree dry food once a day, along with at least some raw meat, fat, scraps. They each also got a raw carrot, apple chunks, and other raw fruits and vegetables often. The last dog loved carrots especially and got a whole one every day of his life (and drove me nuts until he got it!). He would eat anything except lettuce. Heck, he’d even eat that if it had Italian salad dressing on it. 🙂
Interesting that neither Google or Facebook give me any adds. I’ve got a ton of security stuff, mostly anti tracking, on my computer over the last year adds have gone away. These days the only thing Facebook tries to do is link me to “friends”, and i don’t bite.
As for Ron Paul, of course they’re being nice to him now. He’s absolutely no threat to Romney, despite what the article infers. I knew it was over when then dropped the “Crazy” from his name. A few months back he stopped being “Crazy Ron Paul” and went to just “Rep. Ron Paul”.
Nevada has made up for the ridiculous re-election of Reid by standing up and shouting Ron Paul, instead of just accepting who “they” want (Romney)……I’m sure there’s all kinds of sneaky wrongdoing behind it, but it’s a nice headline in the short time it’s a headline…..I wish there was more standing up and shouting everywhere, at least make an attempt…..
Claire,
Did you know that Kirkland was on a list for recall due to salmonella contamination? More here, with a link to the lots, brands and production dates affected:
http://www.honestdog.com/2012/05/04/diamond-pet-foods-and-the-ever-expanding-rolling-recall/
WolfSong — No, I didn’t know! Urg. I checked and apparently none of the food I have is affected — or at least known to be affected — by the recall. I always thought Diamond was a fairly decent brand, but this is their second recall in the last five years. And no, I didn’t know they made any Kirkland foods or any of those “super-premium” brands. Sigh. Thanks for the word.
It is worrisome. Heh. Maybe I’ll have to switch to Beneful.
Or go with a homemade raw diet after I win the lottery.
