Dumber than fiction. If you tried to make something like that up, people would figure it was a lousy disguise for a political rant. Since it really happened, though, we can safely ignore it. Or something.

What I find weird about the article is that you have to read 9 paragraphs before you find out it’s not mistaken identity and that the guy suspects it may all be because he’s politically outspoken.

Claire you should check out the story in the Daily Mail about police here in the UK hunting for a man armed with a sword. The shot a 61 year old blind man in the back with a taser because they “thought” his White stick was a sword!!!!! The cop then handcuffed the poor guy even though he now could see the stick and after being told he was blind!!!!! Why don’t all the UK police carry guns? This is the perfect example why. Give the state and it’s thugs sorry employees power and they will always abuse them.

Roger — UGH! Not surprising, but UGH. I hope the guy sues the bejabbers out of the cop who assaulted him.

We had a case here in the U.S. (the dashboard footage is on YouTube, I think) where a Seattle cop spotted an old, nearly deaf woodcarver crossing the street carrying a pocketknife. The cop jumped out of his squad car, shouted at the woodcarver, then in seconds just blasted him in the back, killing him. The knife was found at the scene, not even opened.

The guy wasn’t doing anything but minding his own business. When you look at the video, the most striking thing is how quickly the cop opened fire. Even if the guy could have heard, it’s not likely he would have had time to respond (or that he could have responded in any way the cop wouldn’t have considered a threat).

I work with an airline co. and I do not fly unless there is absolutely no other way to get from there to here. Instead of kissing up to the feds in hopes of subsidies or competition blocking assistance, the airline companies should be screaming bloody murder about the current state of events.
