By the time you read this, the WhiteHouse.gov petition to make Obama, Biden, and their families safer by creating a gun-free zone around them will have earned the 25,000 signatures required to earn a response from an Official White House Policy Wonk.
It’s just 320 shy as I write this Wednesday night.
Good thing, too, because the WH has just announced that, henceforth, it’ll take 100,000 signatures in 30 days for a petition to be worth bothering with.
Look, I know just as well as you do that all this petitioning is useless. Of course it is. Except for one thing: it’s bothering them. Petitions to secede from the union or subject Our Leader to the same rules he wants us to live by get coverage and get the federal hypocrites’ goat. And that’s something.
So’s this. While I think the NRA’s proposal to put government-paid armed guards in every school is nonsense (and expensive, disastrous nonsense at that), their commercial pointing out that Obama’s kids get exactly what he doesn’t want yours to have is brilliant. It’s so rightly, deservedly emotional. And it pokes at that little spot in all of us that’s increasingly noticing that the political “haves” are keeping themselves well above those who pay their upkeep.
And then, on the same day the WH mouthpiece blasts the NRA ad as “repugnant and cowardly” because it “exploits” children, we watch Obama (as WolfSong so aptly pointed out in recent comments) hiding himself behind a whole wall of excruciatingly manipulated grade schoolers.
Pretty soon … people gonna wonder …
People wont wonder. They are so used to doublethink that its easy to ignore. Case in point, one of Obama’s EOs provides funds for school resource officers (basically arned police protection). When the NRA Suggested this they were called insane nut jobs. When Obama does it not a word. Same as exploiting children. You know Castro, Hitler, Stalin all used “for the children” as a means.

The official white house story is that they were being subjected to ridiculous petitions such as one written by a bunch of tech geeks asking the white house to build a “death star”. (And if you believe that story, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.)
The “death star” petition allegedly got over 30,000 signatures so the white house claimed it “had to” increase the threshold to prevent gags like this. Just in time for it to roll out new draconian agendas.

Yeah, I caught that. You’ve got to giggle just a little bit when one of their stupid ‘feel good’ schemes, something that’s supposed to pertpetuate the illusion that they listen to anything that we prolls have to say, blows up in their faces and just digs them deeper into a hole. Just another reason why they’re pushing so hard on the gun-control BS; they know that eventually enough folks are going to have had enough that they’d ~better~ be the only ones with guns!

@Jay- I think we’d be safer if they ~did~ try building a Death Star. As inept as government is today (they haven’t even been able to finish putting the F-22 Raptor together, and they’ve been working on it for over a decade!), they’d never finish the thing, they’d employ a Hell of a lot of people trying, and they’d also spin up the private sector with all of the contract work involved. And, best of all, I don’t see how they could possible waste any more money on the damned thing than they’re already shoveling into the hole right now; a win-win situation. We just have to be careful not to create a Darth Vader; he might actually be able to get the damn thing built!
