I hope to return to Saturday’s theme in a day or two. I have more upbeat thoughts than I wrote earlier. But deadlines and other realities got in the way.

“Gun Laws and the Fools of Chelm.” I knew from reading his biographical essays that playwright-scriptwriter-director-producer-Tony-nominee-Oscar-nominee-Pulitzer-Prize-winner David Mamet liked and is knowledgeable about firearms. I remember him writing with regret about missing out on getting some memorabilia of the Fabulous Topperweins. But I figured his was probably an uppercrust gunnery — the “sporting guns for me but no ugly guns for thee” attitude we’ve seen so sadly often. But by damn. The man’s the real deal.

And here’s one of our own, doing a good thing once again. Mark/Greylocke, who earlier came up with the Knoppix Thumb Drive (KTD) Preparedness Project*, is now doing something similar for the First and Second Amendments.
His UTD-1A Project aims to pull together — with your help — a lot of firearm-related information that hoplophobes and control freaks want to ban. Specifically everything related to creating your own firearms, parts, and magazines, whether by machining or printing.
He writes:
There is a Legislator, (I won’t say whom) who wants to make the printing or making of your own firearms, weapons or parts, ILLEGAL. That is not just restricting your 2nd Amendment Rights, but your 1st Amendment Rights as well. This Legislator wants to make the dissemination of this “INFORMATION” restricted and or illegal.
So what I am going to try to do, is to create another drive. This one will have all the necessary software to machine or print, your files, plus as many of the pertinent files as I can get together.
I will be making them available for ANYONE!!!! Through uploading to one of my cloud accounts plus I will be seeding the files out as torrents as well.
So I am asking for your help. If you know where these files are or have access to them, SEND THEM TO ME.
I am right now downloading the LinuxCNC files and I am going to try to figure out how to set them up on a USB Thumb Drive like the KTD Project. That is going to be taking a LOT of my time. So please I seriously need your help.
And before somebody objects that 3D printing of complete, functional firearms isn’t ready for primetime yet, I’m sure Mark knows that. But this project will cover much more. So help ensure that all manner of information on homemade liberty tools remains in our hands in convenient form, where it can be tucked away against censorship, or bureaucratic/legislative whim. Give Greylocke a hand if you have or know of information to share.

Scott’s only making a few dollars per drive for the time-consuming work. But he’s doing a good job. I have one of his drives. NFI, but I totally support these projects.
Ah! Good idea. I’ll sign up for a couple of the drives… mostly interested in the CNC info.
I’ll definitely get both of those drives once they become available.
I’d only add for the benefit of those who wouldn’t think of it, that you’d also need to lay in some equipment to make those arms as well, and don’t forget the ammo. The ammo is the hardest part to “make”.

In addition to the equipment you also need to be acquiring skills. Machinist skills are not the easiest to learn but they are well within reach of the average mechanically inclined person. If making stuff is part of your SHTF plan then you need to make skills acquisition your top priority, now.

The comments on the David Mamet column pissed me off so bad I had to stop reading after just a few.

There are also several people working on a printable receiver for several types of rifles, AR-15, 10/22 and a single shot pistol. As for the printing a full firearm, there have been tests of a printable barrel using sintered bronze. So far they have only tried making a .410 shotgun barrel but it worked before they ran out of money.
I’m not asking anyone to send me money, but if they have machining files or 3D printing files or any files that can help please send them to me. I’ve already had a few people send me files and I’m going through them. I have gotten the linuxcnc software and have it on a thumb drive and booting my most finicky computer. I need to figure out how/which 3D printer software to get and install it into linuxcnc.
In a few weeks I’ll be needing a lot of help, someone who has a cnc mill who can help me test this, but they have to be close so I can tweak the software as needed, so it will work mostly out of the box. After that I need the help of someone who has a 3D printer for the same process of working through the software integration.
But that is a few weeks down the road. Right now I’m trying to concentrate on the files. If they try to push the legislation through I’ll just zip them all up together write a torrent and start seeding the files so as many people can get them as possible. In addition to uploading them to one of my cloud file servers.
The .GOV will learn they can’t stop the signal.
The ammo isn’t the hardest thing to make. its the ammo components specifically the case, primer, and powder that are hard to make. on the other hand black powder cap and ball ammo is easy enough to produce at home. get some quick change cylinders for that black powder pistol and you’re good to go. as for the 3D printed receivers I feel that most are missing the point that the finished product can be used for an aluminum casting mold. AKs are simple enough to do without any of the above. Now if I could just figure out how to make barrels 🙂
Not terribly fond of David Mamet’s position on ‘Assault Weapons’. Other than that, his article was spot-on.
I keep thinking that a railgun might be easier to print. And would be more flexible in terms of ammo, no primers or powder needed.

I agree that fear is a survival mechanism – when we have a handle on it. It’s motivating all the long lines at gun shows, which is a good thing. Lots of gun newbies in those lines…
Every once in a while I think about the battles that will take place, and it bothers me. It would be going from one reality to another, one kind of existence to a rougher one. Yet humans adapt; that is what we do best.
Anyway, all people getting toward my age have to recognize we won’t be around much longer in any case. The most dangerous kind of person is someone with nothing to lose, and all older people fall into that category. In that newer reality, the thing to do would be for us to take some bastards with us when we go. “The best end for a useful life is a useful death, and there is no more useful death than one met in the act of killing tyrants.”
And look at the bright side. Imperial overreach is the opening for panarchy to come into being, and panarchy is the opening for anarchy in at least some places. Hardyville will come along soon enough!

Claire, have you ever read what the Founders said about Blacks? They were White Nationalists, Claire. They built this Nation for themselves and their progeny. They took it from the Indians so that Whites could have it. They didn’t use the phrase “White Nationalist” because it would have been redundant. It was understood by everyone.
Do you think that Lincoln cared about Blacks either? Like Jefferson, he wanted them sent far away. I agree with them: diversity is killing us. America needs to split up if Conservative Whites are going to have any chance of reviving the Old Republic and living the way they want.

And imagining that I give a damn what the tyrant Abraham Lincoln thought of anything is another serious misjudgment.
You are entitled to your opinions. But unless you can demonstrate using solid, checkable facts that every single Caucasian is, in every single way, superior to every single person of any other race — and I mean intellectually, morally, physically, ethically, musically, artistically, mathematically, etc. etc. — in every way — then no argument about “us” being superior to “them” will cut any ice with me. (In this, I’m thinking of your earlier comment about soldiers.)
And of course you can’t show that kind of superiority because it’s baloney.
I’ve spent my life in the U.S. around people of different cultures and backgrounds and I feel richer for it and unthreatened by their differences. I do despise politically correct “diversity” and privileges being given to favored groups. But that’s a different issue having nothing inherently to do with color or culture.
If you and your friends want to go off and form a voluntary all-white enclave, no problem. Do it and be happy if you can. But this is a place full of people who believe in individuals, not “ein Volk.”
So please, take your racist views elsewhere.
