Happy Columbus Day. At least to you federal workers, bankers, and Catholic school kids. (Do Catholic schools still give Columbus Day off? When I was a kid in government school I spent many hours pondering whether getting an extra holiday would be ample compensation for getting knuckles rapped with rulers by terrible fierce nuns.)
It’s a good thing you’re really celebrating a three-day weekend, rather than celebrating that dude. (The other guy mentioned had his own problems, but he did beat old Chris by a moral mile — and then some.)

The Navajo Res doesn’t consider it a holiday. With good reason.
Stock markets are open, but bond markets are closed.
I very seldom notice “holidays” of any kind, but especially not the minor ones like this. After all these years, you’d think I’d remember, but I don’t. Drove downtown today to do something at the post awful – this being my usual date, and of course it was closed. The library was closed too. Went to the hardware and grocery store after that and, by golly, they were open. Must be a lesson in there somewhere. 🙂
I agree, Mama Liberty.
I have a hard time celebrating any holidays any more. Seems they either used for making money or political sound bites. So I do my own thing.
I don’t buy presents, decorations, or watch TV.
There, that’ll show them!!! Sorry, but I am crabby today (watching the “news”).
I spent time both in parochial and government schools. Even got my knuckles rapped by Irish nuns, once or twice. Trust me, the parochial schools were better by far despite the added discipline.
