I’ve been trying to get to the last two of those Amazon Christmas list columns. Then jed sent along “Dave Barry’s Gift Guide.”
Sort of a hard act to follow, especially when you’re peddling something.
Barry begins by telling us the real “reason for the season” (not what you think) and goes on to such gem gift recommendations as the Perfect Polly. Apparently a battery-operated talking plastic Chinese parrot. Or something. In each case, Barry waxes ecstatic … er. Well, waxes.
A sample: “Maybe some day we could replace the entire U.S. Congress with battery-operated plastic senators and representatives. Come to think of it, we could replace Congress right now with 535 Perfect Pollys.”
I’ll post my next Amazon list (animal lovers’) after giving you sufficient time to recover from Mr. Barry.

Thanks for the laughs! Barry’s column was a great way to start the day, even half-awake at 6 AM.
You could replace the congresscritters with Battery Operated Boyfriends. They’re already all dicks.
Sorry this is a bit off topic, but…
Can you write up a primer on how to use your Amazon link? I tried last weekend, and the second I clicked on something else, your tag disappeared from the URL, and I couldn’t get it to stay in place during checkout. I was purchasing something I haven’t seen you post in your lists.
So, does your link work only on items you choose, or can I append your tag to any Amazon item, and give you credit for it?
Perhaps a post on tips or tricks you’ve learned?
I nominate a Perfect Polly for President! It certainly can’t do any worse than Obama, and may actually do a better job. At the very least, it’ll entertain the President’s followers, they’d be enraptured for years listening to it go on and on about “Policy”. Even the media won’t be able to tell the difference. It’ll “distract” them all.
Wulfgar — Thanks for asking! And don’t worry. It’s standard for the link code to disappear. But the bottom line is that once you enter Amazon through any link I post, anything you buy during that visit will be credited to me. Doesn’t matter at all whether it’s a specific item I linked to.
If you have any questions about whether items were credited, just say so and we can talk about it via email.
Really good of you to care.
