They can kill the people that desire Freedom, but they can not kill the desire for Freedom.

I love the symbolism of LOTRs. Always have. With the election of Obama Tolkien’s meaning and intent has become uncomfortably more than just some great tale of fantasy. Sauron’s eye, Mordor, Orcs, they exist, they are brought to life by Obama and his minions. shards, indeed. Thanks for this, Claire.

Very interesting. I’ve bookmarked the blog to read in my daily routine.

Some of the comments give far too much weight to Obummer, however. He’s not even a good “Wormtongue,” let alone equal to Sauron.

In my mind, Sauron is actually that poisoned part of human nature that desires to control others, one way or another. Sauron’s relative strength is in this vast pool of poison. It would be so much easier to fight if it were vested in one or even a few million specific individuals, but it never has been. History has shown that even the absolute slave can be filled with this poison.

We must first look for that drop of poison in our own heart. And root it out.
