I agree it is “”no longer a peaceful protest” as soon as the State’s murderous goons arrive. That *is* what they meant… right?

“Your right to assembly is not being denied”

    followed by:

“These are not real bullets we’re shooting at you”

Is this why they were buying up the ammo and causing shortages for the rest of us? Hmmm!

Nobody has yet explained or it seems even asked why a city of only 21,000 mostly African Americans needs 53 officers. My city of 40k has 25, needs less. My parents city of about 20k has 17. Since it is a white minority oppressing a black majority, did they import the officers from South Africa?

City of Tucson has a similar problem with large gatherings of college students. Outside gatherings during college sports play offs are great and peaceful until the police show up to cause a riot.

That’s an interesting measure. In the town that I grew up in, still work in, but have moved rather far from (due to overcrowding and oppressive atmosphere) – the population is 33,000 and the police department lists 52 sworn officers, detectives, chiefs, etc. I do believe the SWAT team(s) are additional. That’s 634 residents per officer.

Compared to this example of 396 perps per revenuer, and Matt’s 1600 free citizens per public servant.
I can say that there are towns I pass thru in which the police presence is utterly shocking. My skin crawls until I’m ten miles past their boarders.

Waaaaaaay to much ‘freedom’ on the part of the thugs, way too little for us non-uniformed rats.

ILTim, I didn’t say we are free citizens we have to pay our way. It helped when our local economy crashed and there was no way possible to reasonably pay for additional officers.

    This will not end well.

Having lived in this area on and off for 35 years, I notice the little local farm communities of Carlton and Yamhill have become rich with an infusion of Portland professionals, who buy up old farms and turn them into wineries. I actually like the wines, and the people there probably like having new money in their towns, but what else came with them are a lot of thuggish cops. As ILTim says, my skin crawls now, driving through these towns.

The standard theory for the creation of governments is an invasion of bandits who take over a community, and that has probably happened quite a lot; but I think another factor is an invasion of wealthy people or creation of a class of wealthy people through some new factor such as trade, the wealthy then gaining control of the local institutions and the beefing up of police to protect their wealth. Then regulations are instituted to keep out competitors and what you end up with is fascism.

I think I liked Yamhill and Carlton better when they were fading farm towns.

If you hate that small backwards hometown, just waith until the outsiders move in and improve it.

“Since it is a white minority oppressing a black majority, ”

Really? In the pictures I saw, the cops matched the locals for skin tone. Although I’ll admit I haven’t looked at every picture there is.

I saw one claim that the cop who did the shooting was also black, but that got pulled shortly after it was posted. No way to verify it one way or the other yet. There were articles claiming Anonymous had released the name of the cop, but then there were claims that Anonymous had released the wrong cop’s name.

I think certain people were hoping the Bundy standoff would result in riots and martial law, but people there were too calm. So they found another way.
