- The Lt. Gov. of Texas asked the Chancellor of the Texas A&M University System to weigh in on campus carry of firearms. Pretty good response (pdf) for a bureaucrat. He nails the central issue: trust. (H/T LarryA)
- The legalization of pot and “drugged” drivers who aren’t.
- The rich and the poor. Which in this case also seems to extend to the powerful and the powerless. They both cheat but from very different motives.
- Bovard on Obama’s rosy belief that the U.S. can squander its way to prosperity.
- The Freedom Feens say that effective libertarians (blush) study Claire Wolfe. (That one got me so flustered I just spelled my own name wrong.)
- The Atlantic prints the politically incorrect (but useful) fact: ISIS is genuinely, indisputably Islamic.
- How one domino the size of a Tic Tac could topple a whole building. I’d like to think this makes a great metaphor for freedom, but even if it doesn’t, it’s a great fun physics fact.
Yeah, I noticed the recent attempt to stop the state-level efforts at decriminalizing pot, by rising fears of drugged drivers. All complete bullshit, just like everything else these bastards put out. Yeah, sure, we need the War on Civil Liberties, er, I mean, Drugs, to keep us safe on the highway. Riiight….
“The difference is that the rich do wrong to help themselves, while the poor do wrong to help others — as in the above Parable of the Dumb Samaritan.”
I tend not to get too wrapped up in the rationalizations people use, to do wrong. There will always be a thousand excuses for it. I don’t care what the excuse is.
Bovard makes it sound like Obama is doing this to us. He’s just an empty suit.
“ISIS is genuinely, indisputably Islamic.”
Yes, and the Inquisition was genuinely, indisputably Christian. Your point? 🙂
People are individuals. Even Muslims…
The domino thing is amazing. Seems like there should be some practical use for that… somehow.
And you mispelled your own name? Isn’t it amazing how that can happen? I’ve done it too. 🙂

In both cases it means their religion isn’t “broken,” in the sense that it’s operating the way it was designed to operate. People who believe we can “fix” ISIS by giving them freedom, educating them, improving their economy, quit “oppressing” them, compromise with them, etc. are going to be disappointed.
Those who think we can win their hearts and minds and be friends by giving them what they want better be willing to step up on the slave block and kiss their you-know-what goodbye.
“You are now entering ISIS. Set your clock back two millennia.”
People are individuals. Even Muslims…
I sincerely hope so, as other Muslims taking on these radicals (except, as the article says, ISIS aren’t the radicals) is the only way this plays out without WWIII.
Can’t give ISIS freedom, they are exercising their interpetation of freedom. The leadership is well educated with a very narrow focus. Can’t improve their economy when they are already taking what they want by force. Can’t oppress people with guns and artillery very well.
The only counter at this time is for the “apostate” Muslims to stand against them, and the non-Muslim world to prepare to defend themselvesa against the aggression that is coming. What we have seen so far in Europe is just warm up drills.
I was actually heartened by the ISIS article. Knowing what to expect, and why, is better than not knowing and, following the article to the author’s conclusions, makes sense. Though I doubt TPTB will listen and learn.
Terror is a product of the emotions. While “terrorists” may attempt to inspire terror, terror does not show itself in those who aren’t afraid to challenge the terrorists. And all challenges needn’t be military. The cartoons of the Prophet (which reminded me of Joel’s “belly laughs”) might well cause ISIS to make some strategic mistakes out of anger.
Practical application of the domino effect: Don’t live/work in buildings more than twice as tall as they are thick. Double don’t if they’re in places like west California.
“Earthquake Proof! Sez so onna label!”
Earthquake proof, does not guarentee airplane proof.
Ref ISIS:
We can’t win war with ISIS by killing them, they need jobs, according to State Dept spokesperson Marie Harf.
No clue.
Psaki and Harf as Lucy and Ethel. Or is it Ethel and Lucy?

That might be it, except I wouldn’t put it so… apocalyptically? Is that a word?
It’s not our problem. The only reason the US ruling class is over there is for the oil. Otherwise these people would be ignored, and in fact probably wouldn’t exist in their current irritating form if not for the actions of “our” government.
I don’t care if they are beheading or burning people. First, that is the lookout of those being beheaded or burned. Second, the US government, acting in our name (if not in our actual interest) killed and burned far more people than these pikers. Read about Dresden for example:

They are still doing it with the drones. Think these people don’t notice it?
I get achingly tired of the use of one misbehavior to justify another.
A = bad therefore B= not so bad. BS
