Midweek links, too

  • It’s here: the 3D-printed revolver. The hoplophobic panic will surely not be far behind. (H/T S)
  • It’s also here: the first private space race. I doubt the Bezos vs Musk is quite as theatrically adversarial as the media would have us think. What a good thing, though, eh? May the best man win. Better yet, may both men win.
  • Over at The Zelman Partisans Nicki turns to DC police chief Lanier and asks, “Take ’em out with what?” and I ask if the Jewish leaders of Europe have no sense of history or just no sense. Carl-Bear Bussjaeger also has some comment on European leaders who want to render their people more vulnerable (and you’d have gotten an advance look at that piece if you subscribed to TZP’s weekly alerts; see the sidebar and sign up!).
  • They said if I didn’t vote for Obama, insurance-industry lobbyists would take over health care.
  • Ban encryption? Can’t be done sez J.D. Tuccille.
  • Your awwwwwwwww story for the day: dog adopts orphaned ‘possum. (Looks a little uncomfortable now that ‘possum’s grown up, though.)

Finally, S sends along a great video and says, “Be this goat.”

    Better rabbinic reply:
“It’s too late to get permission to buy guns. This time there is no Queen Esther. Unlike the King of Persia, European governments aren’t going to let Jews protect themselves against the descendants of Haman. In fact, they will continue to keep their own citizens, but not the descendants of Haman, helpless. Pretty soon the police Jews are depending on won’t even be able to protect the governments. It’s time to get the flock out of Europe.”

“It ain’t the size of the goat in the fight…” 🙂

Oy! I guess the WAPO can’t tell CGI from photography. I shouldn’t be surprised. And what’s with this regulatory “keep up” from Eugene Volokh? That doesn’t sound like the guy I was reading 10 years ago.

And no metal in the cylinder/barrels? I guess it’s good that it’s a 3D printed part, as it’ll need replacing pretty frequently. Yeah I know, that isn’t really the point. I guess gas erosion of the front strap will be a problem too.

I was initially disagreeing with calling it a ‘pepperbox’, but I guess the bullet port in the front strap is just that, i.e. it’s not a barrel in any sense.

On a tangent, I believe this dog did quite well considering her circumstances. It was very hard for me to watch, though. It’s a reminder of how tough it is out there. http://www.wideopenspaces.com/swedish-elkhound-attacked-by-wolves-while-wearing-camera-video/ If the owner “eventually” found his dog, it means the wolves didn’t try to kill and eat her; they just left when she was no longer a threat. Other sites said she was laid up for 3 days, then was up and around. Another noted that hunting dogs have been killed by wolves in this country, and the number of encounters are expected to increase. http://retrieverman.net/2015/10/23/wolves-attack-an-elkhound-in-sweden/
