I forgot. Joel remembered. It is Interesting Times Day.
But shy hermit that he is, Joel neglects to mention one more personally important event that took place on April 19 some undeclared number of years ago. But within Joel’s own lifetime (which you can consider a hint).
Fess up, Joel. Or don’t, as the case may be. But I will say I personally consider it one of the few unqualified good things that happened on that date.
Aw, shucks… (turns red, digs toe in dirt)
Actually there were two important events on this date. There was this:

Which in turn caused this:

Importance is relative, ya know? One assumes the Martyrdom of Ælfheah in 1012 was important to at least some people, at the time. 🙂
Looking at April 19th in History, through a Freedomista lens, I find the battles of Lexington & Concord important. Sure, things have soured along the way, but it was an auspicious day in history, for sure. Didn’t see any mention of Joel, though.
And let’s not forget the premiere of The Simpsons.
For me, it’s a sad anniversary. A year ago today, one of my high school classmates suddenly committed suicide. We were all shocked—she seemed to have everything to live for. A lot of us couldn’t make it to her funeral down in AZ, so we had a separate memorial for her here in our hometown.
1775: Lexington/Concord with important first victory in revolution, with loss of good men on both sides (and not so good men on the British side)
1943: Warsaw uprising started with horrific loss of life
1993: FBI-caused fire at Branch Davidian compound with horrific loss of life
1995: OK City bombing with horrific loss of life.
Good, futile and tragic, all on this day.
