Joel wrote about it: When the law is whatever one person says it is there is no law.
Local media covered the protest at the state house.
You may have heard about it.
But heck, it was all the way across the country from me. And in Massachusetts, where they make outrageous anti-gun diktats six times every day before breakfast. So normally I’d have blogged it only as a linkday blurb.
But happens I know somebody who was there and he took these.
BTW, for those for whom Boston lore is mere history, “Healey 4 Harbor” means dump the dictatorial politician where all that tea went.
P.S. I haven’t verified that George Washington quote & it doesn’t immediately ring true to my ears. But the sign about Patriots players and their kill record certainly makes a fine point.
In a brief search in looking up the quote, I kept getting referred to the same site, which concluded that it didn’t originate with Washington. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2015/feb/20/facebook-posts/did-george-washington-offer-support-individual-gun/ Although it certainly sounds like the kind of advice Jefferson would have offered.
The “What You Tolerate You Validate” dictum holds true in many life situations. The Pats players jab is well earned.
Thanks for checking that out, Shel!
“Blue Lives Better Decide” 😀 I like it.
Also, that’s far too witty to be anything Washington said.
Party like 1775 not 1776, people should read(or listen to) more history. http://profcj.org/american-revolution-part-ii/
1775 the people in Massachusetts were resisting the British trying to take their arms. In 1776 A new oppressive government was forming.
They’re (gov) keeping an eye on 300 gun sellers in the state. Ya know, because mutually beneficial private exchange is dangerous in a free state.
The rule of law is dead.
OT: We already knew this, but I think this is a good summary. http://newsbusters.org/blogs/culture/maggie-mckneely/2016/07/21/scandal-hollywood-spends-decades-scripting-hillary
Dunno where you got the pictures, Claire, but I wish I’d taken some.
The WCVB coverage is disgraceful. They provided a helicopter shot of the “hundreds of protestors” that would have included my truck, had it panned back 3-4 car lengths. That was taken 3 hours AFTER THE PROTEST, after the street had been cleared.
I’ve been at protests that the MSP said totaled 5000. Usually that’s the area in front of the statehouse, the sidewalk on the other side, and 1 lane of traffic. This was packed side to side, with 2 lanes of traffic blocked and the 3rd blocked intermittently, with people overflowing down the steps on other other side onto the common, and on the other side of the fence, back another 20 feet or so. The “official” count was 5000, but I’d guess it was more like 6500.
While discussing options regarding forcing the media’s hand in terms of coverage, I got in a little bit of “I told you so” to the guys I regularly work with on these things. They’d been giving the RC aircraft guys crap over how the FAA registration and regs weren’t a bad thing “because flying RC aircraft isn’t a right.” Well…How’s that working for you now, now that we need a drone overhead with a camera, and we can’t do that without an FAA registration, a $2000 license, a waiver from Logan Airport, and a stipulation that the footage can’t result in any profit? Not even if donated to a news station or web site that gets ad revenue.
If we don’t hang together…
The good: Pink Pistols MA looks like it’s on the way back. People are getting smart and are slowly adopting Occupy and BLM methods. Small, rolling shift-based protests are being organized, maybe in places very “local” for some of the legislators. Further “nudging” at the state house is happening, with more in planning. #healey4harbor is a thing. People on the wrong side of the thin blue line are having to answer to their families over their support, or lack thereof. I know of at least 2 lawsuits that are in the works with some pretty respected legal teams on them. People are MAD.
For her part, Maura Healey seems to be disregarding that rule about eating the whitebread citizens last.
It’s starting to look like the anti-gun folks have bought off on their theories that 90% of everybody wants gun control, and gun owners are a small and shrinking minority.
“Ignoring the lessons of history” and so forth.
Mz Healey has obviously never visited Wyoming….
Here are more photos.
