This is a thing of beauty — other than being a Trump commercial.
You know, I’ve never heard anybody explain why they actually believe Trump — on anything, but especially on the Second Amendment.
I absolutely see why people would want to v*te against Hillary, even if it meant casting their v*te for Lex Luthor in a King Kong suit. I sympathize. Totally. But why believe that a rich, super-authoritarian Manhattanite who has not only contributed to the Clintons (which, of course as a businessman he might have done just in self defense) but socially hobnobbed with them … sincerely believes in our right to bear arms?
I’ve heard people say, “Trump’s good enough for the NRA, so he’s good enough for me.” I’ve heard them say, “Well, so-and-so believes Trump.” But I’ve never heard actual reasons for believing that the man’s giving us the straight skinny. What facts, what track record, what personal experience tells you he’s not just pandering to get elected?
Still, that video is a beautiful thing and certainly does a good job of both making the case for well-armed daughters and damning the highly damnable Mrs. Clinton. (H/T Cat)

Bah. The NRA brought us Toomey, Gillibrand… and too many other victim disarmers to name off hand. Their endorsement is no selling point.
Hell yeah. I know that. You know that. I’m wondering about the thinking of folks who either don’t know about the NRA’s dubious record of endorsements (and A grades) or don’t want to even consider the likelihood of Trump being another Toomey or Gillibrand.
No offense to HWFIW for using his moniker, but I think Trump *fakes it too well.* I still don’t know what he truly wants or how he will act if he gets in office. He’s a loose cannon — a blustering ego, and the worse sort of businessman — one with no principles, acting only on pragmatism and his own desires of the moment.
It is an effective video, however — maybe too effective.
Q: How can you tell if a politician is lying?
A: His lips are moving.
Time wasting dithering. Why are people concerned about what Trump might be when we know what Clinton will be? One of the two will be president and one’s vote (or lack thereof) will have long term implications for the the makeup of the Supreme Court.
And if people keep acquiescing to situations like this, these are the kinds of situations they’ll forever find themselves faced with. Which is part of why I asked the question.
If your is merely a “hold your nose, put on your rubber gloves, and v*te for the lesser evil” v*te, fine. But millions of people actually seem to believe Trump is serious defender of the 2A. Why? What’s that belief based on? What facts, what track record, what personal experience of the man?
Reasons don’t figure into it. It’s desperation. V*ters have no other alternative they allow themselves to consider.
So belief in Donald Trump is as arbitrary as belief in Jim Jones or Harold Camping or Charles Manson. And just as likely to lead to a bad end.
And in case people have already forgotten Harold Camping …

As arbitrary, and as self-destructive.
This is a well done commercial that plays to the very heart strings of those who actually think freedom and self reliance are a good thing. I see only one thing wrong with it. When it comes to any politician anywhere at any level of government one thing is constant, they do not have friends they have interests. Politicians are not in favor of or against anything save that which will get them donations, elected or reelected. The exception to this is the rubes who are newly elected to office and start to rock the boat. Other elected officials in their party and outside their party tend to shut these guys down real fast.
Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil.
If you support evil does that make you also evil?
From now on I’s only voting for good, I may not agree with someone on everything but if I don’t consider them a good person; there’s no vote from me, which means I might not be voting very much.
A political party that gives us evil to vote for is evil too and doesn’t deserve the support of anyone who stands on the side of good.
IMHO if you think good and evil is only a matter of definition, you might be evil too.
I hope I’m wrong, but is the photo shown at 1:17 the one that was all over the news when the little girl lost control of an Uzi and killed the instructor?
LarryA- You know, I was thinking that, too… but didn’t want to say anything.
Ohlord. That would be bad in so many ways. I don’t know whether it is or not, but if so, what a dumbass move — that the antis will jump all over.
Yes. That was indeed a still from the video of the 9-year-old girl killing her shooting instructor. The screen goes black in this video (all three times) before he actually gets shot:

Somebody tell the makers of that video to pull the thing and re-edit it before the Bloombergians hear you talking.
The guy who posted that video is James Staake and he’s on FB. I don’t know how else to reach him.
Hi Claire, I got your info on how to sign up for the special blog. I followed the instructions as far as I could. Do I need further input from you or am I now officially registered? If you are still working on straightening out that computer glitch you mentioned, I completely understand. No pressure, just wanted you to know I’m still immensely interested.–S.K.
He’s got a website (http://www.jamesstaake.com/) but with no contact info that I can find. The site says he’s on Twitter, though. Can anybody reach him that way? Thanks!
S.K. — Sorry about that! I’ve emailed you.
Claire, I sent a PM to James Staake on Facebook.
In his one-on-one interview with the NRA, Trump claimed that his views on the 2A had evolved and he has become pro-2A.
I have it from a very credible source that Trump told a Georgia US Senator that he is very pro-2A. The Senator stated this to a group–which included my source–at a pro-gun gathering/machine gun shoot.
And that’s the extent of my understanding.
Oh, Bill, thank you so much for contacting Staake. I hope he realizes he needs to save a lot of embarrassment. If he’s smart, he will.
Desertrat — Yeah, those are exactly the sorts of things that everybody’s going by. But talk is meaningless. And we all know that. How could anyone with an above-room-temperature IQ not already know that? Trump said his views on women have evolved, too. But all he’s doing is using Clinton’s victims as his personal PR ploys. When he didn’t need them he was calling them a ugly bunch or something to that effect while excusing his buddy Bill.
I totally, absolutely grok people v*ting for Trump. Go with my blessing (yeah, as if you need it). What I can’t understand is being wildly enthusiastic about him solely on the basis of the you-know-what that comes out of a politician’s mouth.
In his one-on-one interview with the NRA, Trump claimed that his views on the 2A had evolved and he has become pro-2A.
Politicians know how to pander to the choir.
I’d be a lot more impressed if Trump announced he was against AWB, UBC, magazine limits, etc. in public. Like at the debate. But the debate committee will make for d*mn sure gun control doesn’t come up.
Even though announcing that question ahead of the last debate might very well double their audience.
What makes you think that James Staake isn’t aware of the source of his video clips?
I don’t know for sure. He might well be aware.
But on the assumption that nobody but the worst sort of fool or the sneakiest sort of mole would deliberately put an image into his video that torpedoed its entire message, I’d give him the benefit of the doubt. Either way, I’m glad Bill contacted him. It was the right thing to do. What Staake does about it now will tell us something about what kind of person he is.
People believe Trump is a defender of the 2nd amendment because they’re still locked into a binary mindset. Breaking out of that is hard for some, impossible for others.
I think the line of reasoning goes like this:
“Democrats hate the 2nd amendment. Republicans hate Democrats. Therefore, Republicans support the 2nd amendment. Trump is a Republican. Therefore, Trump supports the 2nd amendment.”
Or, in Boolean terms:
A =/=B,
C=/=A,
therefore B=C.
D=C,
so D=B.
Yep. Math geek.
I trust Trump about 80% because I grew up on Long Island around men like him. I KNOW what makes them who they are. I own an American manufacturing co. (inherited from my late husband): I KNOW what running a business entails (and damn! Trump has done a bang-up job with his!) and I am not disturbed in the slightest that he had to hob nob with the Clintons and their ilk! Trump builds LUXURY properties — his customer demographics ARE those people!! How many of you have heard or advised business people to “network” — to “go where your customers are” — but then think he was hanging out with his customers for pleasure and not for business? Dyah think going to Appleby’s and Waffle House will let him meet folks who can AFFORD a multi-million-dollar apartment?!
Trump probably knows more about personal and family security than most of the people here! He has had personal protection, and has provided personal protection for his family, for decades! Stop buying the media crap about “out-of-touch liar” and look at where he came from and how he has had to live.
And: he’s our LAST chance! If we lose the Supreme Court and don’t stop immigration, then no conservative or republican — fake or otherwise — will EVER be able to do anything to protect this country. So, stop quibbling and get him INTO office. The patient — this country — is BLEEDING to death; and y’all are whining about “maybe we should fix the broken arm first, or attend some other patient first.” STOP THE BLEEDING or there is no point — and no chance — for anything else you care about!!
