Thursday links

And with that, I’m off to have some minor surgery this morning. How much I’ll post in the next few days depends on a) pain and b) how cool and groovy the pain killers leave me feeling. While I’m off either suffering or being blissfully stoned … Don’t forget: This month only, these Amazon ads at the bottom of most of my posts pay a much bigger commission than the regular links — and that’s true even if you don’t buy the featured items, but only use the search box on the ad to find what you’re looking for.

    Hopefully Claire you don’t have this conversation on the way today;

Claire entering the Operation Room: “Doctor I am very much nervous. I am getting operated on for the first time…” Doctor:” So what? Why should you worry about that. Look at me. I too am operating for the first time in my career. Do I look worried?”

Good luck with the surgery. I hope you get some good drugs!

Interesting articles by Greenwald and Lapinsky. Thanks for sharing.

BTW, I like the variety of the ads linked to your page by Amazon. I haven’t yet seen anything I want to buy, but ii seems inevitable that there will be. And I find them perfectly innocuous; they don’t detract in the least from the posts. If they’re making you money, by all means keep them.

Curious, looking at the list of Trump plans, which ones did you find ‘scary?’ I thought some were unrealistic, but didn’t find any scary ones. Just curious.

Best wishes for swift and happy healing, Claire.

Here’s a better bet for only one post-election analysis, complete with something truly worrying about the Trump presidency. (H/T LRC)

Thanks for the cats and dogs photos – even (or especially) a cynical SOB like me needs a genuine awwwww moment now and again.

My thinking is that the elites of both parties had their preferred candidates, Hillary and Jeb. The democrats have always been better organized and able to keep the minions in line, with the result that Hillary could be forced on the public and Jeb couldn’t, with the further result that the one remaining anti-establishment candidate won. Had the the internal party control results been reversed, I believe Bernie likely would have beaten Jeb.

FWIW, a friend is now reading Jeb; and the Bush bunch is every bit as bad as the rest of them (no surprise to most readers of this blog, I imagine). https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_5_3?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=jeb+and+the+bush+crime+family&sprefix=jeb%2Caps%2C267&crid=MAGJ9GIZ6O46

Pat Buchanan agrees with Lind (referenced by AG above) that the non-supporters of their party’s candidate don’t have a future on the national scene http://buchanan.org/blog/promoted-private-ryan-125221 I think most of us here agree that’s a good thing.

Glad your procedure is minor. We should be grateful that it is and enjoy the music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr-kn0JG5p4

    Well, no.
I’ll grant you the Bush’s political positions aren’t much different.
But by all accounts the Bush’s treat their staff right. Had Hillary won, I anticipated a mass exodus from the Secret Service and White House.
“As ye have done unto the least of these…” counts for something, at least on the Decent Human Being scale.
And pissing off your praetorians is really Wicked Witch of the West Stupid.

I never meant my comment to apply on a personal level. I’ve argued on this blog, in fact, that Republicans in general seem to be better people when politics isn’t considered (and took flak from Claire for it). Bush never made any comments like Obama’s when he said that combat wounded veterans should pay for their own medical care because, after all, they had volunteered for it. Nor did Bush intentionally, as in Benghazi, watch the fighting for hours over live feed, actively prevent timely rescue efforts, and lie about the cause of the incident.

George W. actually visited Walter Reed Hospital multiple times. He came to my area to visit a lady who had organized knitting socks – I think – for the troops. He also met with the parents of a deceased soldier, which threw his schedule off for about 20 minutes. He was late by that amount for everything else for the rest of the day but never mentioned what he had done. My concern is that they, like the other elites, apparently have amassed their fortunes in significant part from taxpayer money, in their case in the form of contracts.

I wondered, if Hillary should win, what would happen to the FBI agents who had tendered their resignations. I figured they would automatically become a part of a massive housecleaning under the guise of getting rid of politicization.
