Trump’s officially been sworn in. The world hasn’t ended. Minorities aren’t being marched off to extermination camps. Women are not required to be either barefoot and pregnant or sexy and available. Putin hasn’t moved into the White House. And, poor CNN is disappointed in its embarrassingly obvious hopes that someone would murder Trump before the swearing in so that Obama could … appoint the next president or something like that.

On the surreal side, I think Chuck Schumer used the inaugural ceremonies to call for civil war.

Schumer, who is a flack for hedge fund tax breaks and another antigun elite, ignored the incoming potus and did his own agenda IMO. DJT speech was very solid populist rhetoric, ignoring economic realities, with usual Trump craziness about the “weak” military needing strengthening and crazy wall building implied. He did have an America first isolationist agenda with stuff to scare NATO. Some things he would do would trash what’s left of the economy and destabilize things probably. What does he really want to do? What can really do? What should anyone do to change an entropizing country of 300 million that has squandered resources and has countless idiot citizens of every stripe? Scary God reference or two being on our side always disturbing. While hearing America the Beautiful, written by a local, was inspiring as usual, my overall feeling was, I guess, semi hopelessness of wrong headed values by everyone but this thread.

Our military is indeed week because of too much spending on the wrong things. F-35, for instance, or the useless “littoral combat ships”. And, too much Social Justice garbage which kills morale. (Napoleon’s comments on morale are worth reading.) Spending, in and of itself does not equate to strength.
Bringing the troops home from useless wars and ending foolish programs plus re-orienting training programs could create a stronger military while reducing its share of the budget by at least ten percent if not twenty.
The foreign and domestic-economic policies since Reagan have created problems which are seemingly beyond resolution. Too many built-in steps to failure for Trump to overcome, IMO. But I wouldn’t want him to avoid trying.
For now, he’s doing what Reagan did: Restoring hope after the previously created misery. Beats the alternative.
Obama never seemed to believe in “God.” But though a pathological narcissist, by every action at all relevant he 100% seemed to believe in “Allah.”
Trump only said “I* a couple of times and the speech was short. That’s a good sign.
I was hoping Putin would attend the Inaugural but maybe he will have tea at the White House.
And Schumer is one of the anti-gun folks who for years have been calling us gunfolk stupid because even with our guns we obviously wouldn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of ever standing against the military.
And now, by the way, the Commander in Chief is one of us.

Several of our local high school kids got to go, through various organizations. I’m glad nothing ruined it for them.
Had to smile at the pictures of the bikers there to defend Trump. Anyway, once again all of the breathless, hysterical predictions of Armageddon violence were false. No “terrorist” attacks or missiles from N. Korea either. Good thing, of course. I suspect the next few months will have more than enough upheaval and snowflake/cupcake hysteria without any actual violence.
Of course, Trump isn’t actually going to end the war on people, and the prohibitions will likely continue, but it was nice to read that he’s proposing to require two “regulations” repealed for every new one proposed. Should only take a thousand years or so to get rid of half of them… sigh

Aw, Robert, my grandparents and parents had more to do with how I raised my son than any government dudes ever did. Me, I was raised to be independent and self-sufficient, which meant get a remunerative job. Boss says, “Son, be here at 8AM,” and so that’s a voluntary contract.
Other than two or so hours a year of government paperwork–taxes and such–I pretty much ignore government. A couple of hours out of 8,760/yr is trivial.

A number of my old friends in St Louis took selfies at the D.C. women’s rally, or at the St Louis women’s rally. I can’t say that I understand why, since all of them are successful in their own ways. I only know that I have no desire to actually ask them, especially after listening to Ashley Judd. There isn’t enough time in the day to unpack all of those innuendos, distortions, falsehoods, and that pervasive victimology.
I just watched ‘Hidden Figures’, and I thought that those three women showed the world more about how to change people’s attitudes about race and gender than all the activist shaming that has ever been done.

I just finished reading Trump’s inaugural address. Here are some of my thoughts…
Sounds very much as if this lunatic will complete the destruction of American freedom, wealth and peace… (And no, I didn’t “vote” for anyone. NONE OF THE ABOVE would be my choice if I did.)
There was absolutely zero mention of individual liberty or autonomy in this speech. Three hundred million + people will never, can never share all the same values, goals and aspirations. The crushing “we” here is as serious a pathology as the Klinton assumptions of authority and power to dictate her own ideology and whims.
