- John Lott gives that stats for what ought to be obvious: The U.S. does not have a murder problem. Certain counties have a murder problem. (And no doubt also certain neighborhoods within those counties, and certain individuals within those neighborhoods.)
- Ooh. That hurts: “I threw away $4.8 million in bitcoin. (H/T MtK)
- Fairly decent article about the knife-rights movement.
- Mixed blessing. Pitbull saved from death row is now a drug warrior. (Tip o’ hat to PT)
- Attempted murder survivor tells women to fight back via her Fight Like Girls program.
- Nobody can give a pat definition of happiness. At least not one that applies to other people. The great Wendy McElroy is working on her own happiness, though. And her way sounds like a good idea to me.
- Obvious signs humanity is regressing.
- Stone pavers turned into stone planters. Clever! And nice looking. (H/T MJ)
- Dr. Ollie Daube is on the boards of seven medical journals. Dr. Ollie Daube is also a Staffordshire terrier.
Pavers – you must have been desperate
I read the entire article about “fighting back.” I didn’t see anything at all about preparing for actual self defense! Would love to have any of these ladies in my firearms/self defense classes. Then they might get past worrying about hurting their attacker’s FEELINGS, of all things.
LOL no, jordanms. I must have been thinking about the the eventual garden/patio area I want to create when all this messy construction and deconstruction is done. And how this is a good time of year for that sort of thing.
I thought those paver-planters were quite cool, thank you.
Lowe’s just had those 12×12 grey pavers on sale for .88¢. Helped the friend with the first three pallets. He went through another five today doing his driveway, still has one pallet extra for gazebo area. Personally, I prefer natural rock, but it takes an insane amount of time to get them pieced together, and I never bring enough home during my not often enough trips to the woods.
Oh, also found out the paver-planters were a pinterest thing five years ago… so they are “dated”. Haha
The fight back article is also kind of redundant, there are plenty of information out there that says the same things they are saying. Mostly common sense stuff. And I agree with ML, no mention of guns for self defense.
Seems like if any university could appreciate armed self-defense, it would be Brigham Young University.
Lessons of History…
For me, the key to living happy comes from fighting for freedom instead of against oppression. Huge difference in what you focus on.
About the “Obvious signs humanity is regressing” link, the next page is even better. :^)

Wendy sounds rather Stoic to me.
Given our last several mis-diagnosis by numerous doctors (at great expense), all of whom ordered expensive MRI’s and CT scans, none of whom listened to the patient nor bothered to look up simple causes of my wife’s eye issues.
Wife: Dr. Ollie, could my problem come from a bad sinus infection?
Dr Ollie: Woof!
Wife: That’ what I thought. Will it heal on it’s own?
Dr. Ollie: Woof!
Wife: Oh thank you Doctor! Just what I needed to hear.
Dr. Ollie gives a new dimension to the term “Therapy Dog”.
Look up the “Icelandic Revolution”.
I like the name: The “Pots and Pans Revolution”.
Of course, it’ll probably never happen here. Especially since there seems to be a media blackout, as if “they” didn’t want the rest of us to find out about it.

Good one, Jim B. Alas, I fear such things work best in countries like Iceland that are basically small, homogeneous towns writ large.
