- She moved from a blue state to a sort of reddish one and had her eyes opened — both about her new home and the prejudices of the people she left behind.
- Ha. Remember the monkey selfie case that PETA just settled? A lawyer who crusades against bad settlements submits a hilarious brief pointing out that PETA has no standing to settle on the monkey’s behalf.
- That new “liberal” pope has been anything but liberal — or transparent or different than recent old popes — when it comes to priests who sexualize kiddies.
- Think humans are violent toward each other? We don’t even rank in the top 30 species when it comes to killing our own kind. We still manage to be “exceptional,” though.
- Anybody here read the Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin? Annalee Newitz makes it sound fascinating, but given the politicalization of SF, I’m no longer sure that winning multiple Hugos says anything about the quality of a story.
- “Coming out” as an economic conservative. (Too true to be funny.)
- To combat “hate,” make government weaker.
- According to somebody or another, the bible says the world is going to end. Again. Next weekend. Sigh. I do with the world would just get over the business of incessantly ending.
- I’m a bit late picking up on this one, but here’s a charming beg from a college student to bring her dog to class and the even better response from her teacher.
- Five superpowers even the most ordinary movie characters have. 🙂

End of the world? Again? Good grief. If it ends, it ends. At least then I won’t have to worry about the property tax bill, or anything else. Bring it on…
The Hugo is an excellent award. If a work has earned a Hugo you can be positive that it is entirely composed of SJW psychobabble. If you want to judge a book by the award if it won a Dragon its probably pretty good.
Catholic pedophile priests, in 1957 in Los Angeles I discovered that the children of LA knew what was happening I learned on my first day there that catholic boys learned to suck priests d@@ks. The children knew it was common knowledge on the streets and it took how long for the “adults” to notice.
Put the Fifth Season on my Wish List at Amazon. Need to wait a week to get it. Will report back then. Not optimistic.
Last week our local high school got two reports of unrelated “inappropriate relationships.”
The superintendent wrote a letter to all the parents, and another to the high school parents. He issued a press release to the local newspapers. The teachers have been suspended and isolated from students, and the police are investigating. The school is scheduling more staff and student training, on top of their routine training programs, which are very thorough.
While they are withholding details until the investigation runs, they’re promising information once it’s complete.
So, they’re doing what the Catholic Church should have done when they first had a problem.
Every organization that deals with children is susceptible to such problems. The only way to discourage them is to be open about the situations, and let the chips fall where they may.
Singer missed the first advantage of moving to a red state. Her husband found a job.
Apparently the Hugo doesn’t mean much these days. When it got to the point that I was rereading books, I ordered the Jemisin Broken Earth books and am half way through the 2nd. Mediocre at best. Pc has run amok, the bio says one of her interests is “social justice” which maybe is what the award is based upon.
