Kit Perez and I are writing a book. I didn’t think I’d ever write one again, but she’s an inspiration as well as a scary-efficient writing partner. We started just last month and are probably close to the halfway mark already.
Topic: Resistance to tyranny. Specifically, practical forms of resistance freedomistas can do NOW, personal skills needed, warning signs to watch for, etc.
Timeline: We hope to have it out in Kindle and publish-on-demand early next year
What we need: A couple of intelligent readers who can review in-progress drafts and answer questions like: “Is this information useful?” “Are we explaining it well?” “Are we leaving anything out that you feel should be included?”
I know multiple Commentariat members will be rushing to raise their hands. But here’s the thing: The ideal reality checker would be between late teens and fortysomething and would be a person who values individual liberty and wants to know how to resist tyranny without having to hide in a bunker or take up arms.
That’s the book’s target audience. So we’d like to have that perspective as we go along on the project. My grizzled old Outlaw veteran friends aren’t the ones we need to hear from now.
So. Does that description of a youthful(ish) freedomista fit you? Does it fit your adult child or grandchild who might like to have input on a book? Then please let me know in comments. If you put your real email address in the comment box, we can talk and exchange further info. We’re looking for two people no and perhaps two or three others to look over the finished draft later on.
Cheers & thanks!
I have passed this along to a couple of people I know in the demographic you describe. However they are not in the US. Is this OK? If they are interested should I ask them to post directly here?
Pencil me in for “later on.” The prepper groups around here are Grizzled City.
Greetings, Jorge. Good to see you again. And yes, being outside the U.S. is fine. I’m sure we have some U.S.-centric content in the book, but overall it could be used by anybody. (And as it’s shaping, up, a number of our examples of resistance come from outside the U.S.) So by all means, if these are people you’d trust to do the reality checking, ask them to post here if they’re interested or otherwise put me in touch with them.
larryarnold — Okay, you’re penciled in for later as a writer who could give writerly input (and I know you’d do it well). Grizzled City is familiar territory …
I’m forty-something, a technical writer/editor by profession, and author of a book on practical forms of resistance (https://sniggle.net/99Tactics). I can help with reviewing.
Have you tried the Antifas? They don’t “hide” and despises guns. Preferring guardrails to smash bank windows and such, just ask Milo.
I rarely comment, and at 45 i’m the upper end of the age group you’re looking for. I am, however, well read enough to have known you were looking for “its steamboats when it comes steamboat time” and give its origin based on a linked Twain quote. And you let me read an early copy of Rebelfire (i provided the Opium War version of their song) so I’m capable of non-disclosure.
I’d love to help, if you’ll have me.
I can probably find a late teen reader who fits the bill. Gimme a yell if you have trouble finding one.
My grizzled old Outlaw veteran friends aren’t the ones we need to hear from now.
(huffs. stomps off.) 😉
I’m still under the 40 mark. I’d be happy to give you some feedback.
Thank you for the offers of reality checking.
David Gross — I didn’t know you were still that young, but as it happens we’ve already “taken your name in vain” in the book and I believe you’d be a good reality checker; I think I’d like to save you for the final review stage, though, if you don’t mind.
Fitz — Good history (and good memory). Of course we’d be glad to have you.
Thomas Knapp — I think a late teen reader — someone interested in freedom but perhaps not practiced in the ways of activism — would be ideal. If we don’t find one I’ll certainly give you a yell.
Ellendra — You’re another that I’d like to hold in reserve for the final review. Okay with you?
I believe that, other than finding some young, inexperienced (but freedom-loving and reliable) reality checker we’ve now got it!
So thank you all.
At first I was like, this might be something i could do, but a mans gotta know his limits… 8-P
Im hoping you find a sizable target here to help.
Claire,
I regret I am not in your “”late teens and fortysomething”” age range requirement. But, I “self-identify” as being in that age range. Do I qualify?
ExpatNJ — That depends. How many people on Twitter will call me Hitler if I say no?
This grizzled old Outlaw veteran fiend says what ever the two of you do is good as long as it is from the heart!!!!!
