… we are having a discussion about this season’s flu and how to fight it.
If you’ve been following the news, you know that the current common strain is a nasty one — and that this year’s vaccine is a miss. The vac is only 19% effective, at best, and by some counts only 10%.
I also know we have quite a few around here, including several retired or current medical people, who wouldn’t get a flu vaccine if it were billed as 97% effective. (Partly because the vaccines have such a history of being surrounded by misinformation and propaganda.)
So if you’re concerned but haven’t been at the Cabal in a while (or never) … come on down. Newbies are asked to fill out a short questionnaire and wait to be approved. If you’re a current member, you can just stroll on in.

We stopped getting flu shots a number of years ago, mainly because the contraindications can be so nasty. Just learned of a woman who was 11 years old when she had a flu shot that ended up stripping the cover off her body’s nerve strands. As a result she has no feeling, I guess similar to the effect one would have if you had leprosy. I also don’t believe the good doctors and researchers can predict what the flu strain will be a year or so in the future. I just read a good article on influenza by Dr. Bones

He and his wife Amy have a great website that you could spend days on. My wife contracted a flu type bug before Christmas and it started to affect her lungs (she had pleurisy a couple of years ago and now that is her Achilles tendon) so I started her on a Z pack which took care of any bacteria attacking her system. We have stocked up on a supply of antibiotics for use if the SHTF. She is just about over her cough as a partial result of staying away from crowds and drinking copious amounts of fluids.
Bottom line, stay away from crowds, drink plenty of fluid, get lots of rest, take two aspirin and call the Doctor in the morning.
My sister’s family always gets the flu shot. They do whatever the government wants them to do, all being employed by government schools. Then they showed up at Christmas with the flu, in spite of? their shots, and infected me. My flu only lasted 2 days (but then I immediately came down with a cold that lasted longer but was only an inconvenience). It was amusing to hear them making excuses about coming down with the flu and how “at least the shot made it not as severe and shorter in duration” when I actually recovered just as quickly without ever getting the shot.
Never had a flu shot. Never had the flu in my entire 71 and counting years, even when heavily exposed so often while working home health nursing and hospice. I don’t get colds either, or other infections. I wish I knew why, and could bottle it. My only answer is a healthy immune system. If your diet is mostly whole foods, as fresh as possible, with little processed and chemical laden stuff… you have a darn good head start. Right up there at the top is learning how to avoid or at least deal with (release) stress. Long term and ongoing stress seriously damages the body, as well as the mind and spirit. That alone can lower your immune system badly.
Good luck, everyone.
From what I am learning at the Cabal; CENSORED, CENSORED and CENSORED all help in prevention, I’ve been stocking up.
ED NOTE: Hey, don’t give it all away, Comrade. 🙂 Leave some incentive for people to join in the discussion.
Once or twice a winter I get a craving for oranges. I pick up a bag of Cuties or Halos and enjoy one or two a day.
A week or so later everyone else gets the flu.
I usually go through a couple of bags before the craving fades.
Flu shot….NO! Vitamin C,…YES!
Spent the day shopping, will add 3 grams to my daily 1 gram dose. And tomorrow too.Been drinking my silver too.Works for me I reckon,no flu.
I couldnt do the Cabal questions and email, too personal for me. 🙁 Though Im sure google et al already knew thats how I would respond.
fred — Since I know you from the Commentariat, I can let you in without the questionnaire. But you have to use a working email address to register at the Cabal. You have my email; drop me a note if you want me to create a membership for you.
Just got a visit from a salesman who, thankfully, declined to shake my hand because he was just getting over the flu. “…but I had the flu shot so it wasn’t so bad.” I tried hard not to roll my eyes. To what lengths will people go to avoid questioning orthodoxy? Denying the obvious incongruity of words in the same sentence?
“…but I had the flu shot so it wasn’t so bad.”
I’ve looked in vain for data to back the claim that a flu shot, even if it utterly fails to prevent the flu, will somehow make the illness milder or shorter. Yet the claim appears in article after article after article and quote after quote after quote, by expert after expert after expert. It’s especially prevalent this year when the flu is so bad and the shot so ineffective.
I’m not “anti-vaccine.” Within the last two years I got my tetanus update and the two pneumonia vaccines. I’d get shingles shots if I could afford them (and even though they’re only about 50% effective). But I wonder what the point is of this endless propaganda for flu vaccines that have, at best, a spotty record?
I even saw an article the other day that urged people to get flu shots “for the sake of others” even if they didn’t want them for their own benefit. The article was even worse than its theme sounds; it was, start-to-finish, a complete, illogical mess of irrelevancies.
It would be easy to say it all comes down to money. Or power via keeping people in fear. But that’s too facile.
Money is only one way the “rulers” exercise power and control over other people. So is irrational fear.
Like ML, I can’t remember the last time I got duped into a flu shot (decades, minimum; when I didn’t know any better). I’d prefer to have a working immune system.
Haven’t had a trace of “flu” (or any of the generally-confounded lookalikes) in more years than I recall. For that matter, no ‘sickness,’ period.
Herbal, nutritional supplements – from Vit D3/K to superfoods, yes. No GMO’d frankenfood, or aspartame, or glyophosphate-laden whatevers either. (Pretty much organic, unless we grow it ourselves, like chickens, eggs, the organic garden and greenhouse here, or now a few goats.)
Anyway, there’s a statistical analysis (“thought experiment proof”) that I’ve shared on radio shows for years; thought about putting it in forum, but like Fred, I’m Out-of-Warranty, and not inclined to essay questions unless they’re on topics I’d contribute otherwise to anyway…
[ Anyway, if renewal sans questionnaire is an option, that’s great, if not, blessings regardless.

Dang,thats EXACTLY my story.I get shingles shot next visit,last was 2nd pneumonia and tetanus.Mrs GOT shingles,still has painful flare-ups since,not a good thing.Flu,HPV,etc etc etc…..dont want em.
Actual research studies are showing your pets dont need all the vac boosters at all.Try telling your average vet that, its their bread and butter and they do have bills to pay.I get that part.Rabies here is every three years,no exceptions, needed or not.
I did get my dogs a booster when distemper raged thru here,Bud lost 2-3 puppies that had their shots before they arrived here, story was the immune system hadnt fully developed and they werent effective.Saved the last pup and daughters dog next door (1 year old GSD) with colloidal silver.Silver work or co-inky-dinky,dont know.I do know he saved his MIL with MRSA sent to nursing home to die after all had failed, with colloidal silver.CS,always a controversial issue.
Oops,meant Parvo,not distemper
